Filled up today on way to work and got the yellow light of doom when leaving the petrol station. Was fine when i left home about 10 miles earlier. Exup doesn't sound the same as usual so gonna get her down to dealers in the morning. Gutted to say the least, bikes only 7 months old.

God, - I hear so much crappola about exup valves on 675s!! - can't the damn things just be pulled out of there and let the bike run normally???

Just got back from dealers and turns out error code was relating to exup valve :( ! Not all bad news tho, cables just needed adjusting so 30 mins later fault cleared and on my way. :D

Triumph allegedly used a new hardening process on the ends of the butterfly shaft to help alleviate this fault some 18 months back. Doesn't seem to have worked too well does it. :?

Are you listening Mr Bloor - your exup valves are sh*t and we are sick of it.

On a different note, the valve can be removed but 1, it's costly to do, and 2, you sacrifice some low down power/torque/economy. It's not an easy job.

I am surprised nobody has come up with a valve eliminator kit as an aftermarket. Something with a bolt on shaft lock for the valve itself, and a new one piece servo quadrant with angular lockstops, so we could throw away the cables. Would be cheaper and easier than an arrow system & remap.

    Thoughts anyone?

Also had the little yellow one appear :( not been using bike at all due to weather, work commitments, baby commitments, and keeping wife happy by sorting out our ensuite commitments lol. Still been firing the bike up once a week and getting it through a heat cycle but the old yellow one still appeared last time I fired her up.

On the plus side it's due a service so while it's in getting that done I'll get it sorted. Toying with the idea of changing the end can for the TOR one as the dealer I spoke to said he has them on special atm, and as it'll be remapped during it's service anyway seems to make sense, just not 100% on whether to save a little harder and go for the Arrow one instead.

Now if this flaming weather would only ease up so I can get to the dealers!!!

Firstly before I begin I am not an expert so If I have got this a little A*se about face sorry don’t shoot me. I had the same thing a few weeks ago it just came on while riding, popped into the dealer who confirmed that it was most likely the above, I was to book in for a quick check up when I could, if it needed replacing it would be under warranty.
I was concerned about riding with this light coming on,they said, after listening to her that it would not do any harm as it was part of the sytem to keep the emissions down at low speeds so I could still ride it if I wanted. I spent the next few hours out and the next day half way through the ride the light went out and all (touch wood) seems to be ok it must have unstuck itself after an exciting run !!!!

For my own piece of mind is this the case, is it more about emission levels at lower revs than anything else? She has been out a fair bit in the wet and cold recently? is there anything I can do to help protect this vulnerable part, low down close to all the crap on the road?

No shooting honest! Unless someone wants to shoot me for being simplistic, patronising or wrong. Sorry.

A better dyno curve that meets the emissions regs is the primary reason the exup is fitted.

It's primary reason is to partially restrict the exhaust flow by closing a little at low revs, that slows gas flow through the exhaust headers and engine (creates exh back-pressure) so the fuel & air doesn't fly straight out the exhaust valves unburnt. If you don't burn it you lose power/torque, and as we know the dyno curve is king for sports bikes. :D

Lots of fuel/air can get in because of the 4 valves and high air/fuel mix flow needed at max revs and power. To make more power/torque and lower the emissions at lower revs you need to hold it in the cylinder long enough to burn it. Efficiently.
Fuel out of exhaust = bad emissions & poor curve.

Hope that helps anyone that needed confusing about exup valves.

my 03 r1 had the ex up valve and there were plenty of horror stories going around when i 1st bought it but never had any worries with it.the daytona does seem to take twice as long to check on start up though

  13. I had the yellow light of death on the ps3 the other week and returned it after 34 months and got a new one under the sale description act I wonder if you could do the same with the bikes?

Not happy folks, got my boy staying with me this week and decided to go for a ride today as weather was nice but yellow light came on on way home 2nd time in 6 weeks :( . Haven't got time to get it to dealers as going to france then taking my lad home friday and staying up north for a week.

  15. I have no idea what any of this is about but I like yellow lights. They are not my number one for light colour that would be maybe um.... green. Yep I would like a green light.

  16. Whenever I now get the yellow light, I spray silicon lubricant around the pivot area as a stop gap measure. It soon clears the problem, and I ride the bike through winter, if it's not snowing. It's a lazy approach, and needs occasional re-applicaton, but it's simple and effective! ...And I have had the header pipes replaced under warranty in the past.

I got sick of it and had my cat/exbv cut out and replaced with straight-through SS by a local fabricator. Already had the Tuneboy so turned off the CEL and started playing around with the A/F tables to fill in the 2.5-3k flat spot, and 5-5.5k surging. Runs pretty good now but I will be getting it dyno'd properly this summer.
If anyone has a TOR can and deleted cat/exbv setup like mine, and is running the arrow map (which I tried but it was awfull) to turn the CEL off I can give them my map. I don't know how it would work with an aftermarket slip-on like a Jardine and no cat/exbv though. Probably better with the arrow map for that.

  18. It's maximum a 30minute job, even if you're not at all mechanically inclined....it really is crazily simple!

Fairing off, exup cover off...unhook spring, undo bolt of the motor....use an adjustable spanner to give it a wiggle until its nice and free...coat in WD40.....and reverse the process.

I use Silkolene graphite spray lube on mine. Touch wood works for me.
