You're way more winter hardy than I am! My Daytona hasn't seen more than the inside of the garage since mid September.
The "Problem Child" Daytona got bored of being inside of the four walls of the garage. So we mixed it up a bit and it got to experience being inside of the four walls of a recovery van instead today. Effing thing! I'd braved the cold and had only got a few miles down into Henley when it decided that it wanted to part company with its coolant. Luckily, Mr Janey was behind me at some red lights and pulled me over, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed until something lit up on the dash or went *bang*. Sighhhhhh, at least it was a nice view of the Thames for a while.
Yeah... It's a Triumph It's just been dumped back on the naughty seat in the garage until either of us can be arsed to look at it properly. The BMW is looking at it very smugly.
Gutted, I’m sure it wasn’t having a strop at being ignored for the IL4 missile - at least you weren’t stuck out on a cold mountainside etc… I had my last ride out yesterday as it was warmer - SORN now for the winter - then had a surprise call from my brother at a loose end - so did the same route, top down on 4 wheels, talking shit, doing the B roads of the borders & including another stop at ze baffle house to educate him on 2 wheels (aside from the few times a bike overtook on the pipe)
Another last ride post, this time on the TTR, not to rub Janey's nose in it but both bikes running perfect, which is how I like it before their winter hibernation. Time to get the winter mudguards on the pushbike and get pedalling
I decided to get out on the Daytona early (early for me, any way!) this morning, when it was still way too cold and I was way too underdressed (= my usual riding gear has shrunk over winter!). So if anyone saw a grubby 675 in South Oxfordshire with a rider in bright pink jeans and a frozen death grip on the bars, that'd be me.
You can probably blame me for the retrograde weather change @Janey .: I've dressed my bike in her road wheels, lighting, smartest bodywork etc,,, got a years insurance & an MOT. The weather has been pants ever since..! Time flies, and I discovered that my (full) NCD had lapsed so I have started back at 0y NCD The MOT delivered the biggest shock though. The last one was over 3y ago, and I had only covered about 800m on the road before I had an "involuntary dismount " at Snetterton, and she's not been on the road since. Nontheless the MOT history flagged up that I have covered just over 6k miles since the previous MOT. That's therefore 6k miles of mainly bouncing off the rev limiter on racetracks, & including a few too many times running whilst prone..
150 mile trip today - went to meet some friends near Altrincham today so decided to use the bike - cold and wet and boring as most of the route was on the M62/M60 but still enjoyable.
If its any consolation gninnam i spent Lots of my hard earned cash for 5 days on track in Spain last week and was also cold and wet. With a highsider to top it all off.
It was the full experience StMarks, infact I’m still experiencing it now.Only hurts when i breath or move though haha.Really lucky, landed flat on my back and nothing broken.
Thank goodness for back protectors mate. Highsiders terrify me Nik, it always seems to be so instant followed by damaging. How did your trusty steed fare, I imagine she's feeling as battered as you.
Thank goodness for Tech-air technology. Like me the bike really got away with too, thankfully.Front subframe/clocks bracket a bit off centre,clip-on bent, rearset bent, footpeg ground down, fancy new Tony Scott fairing with Some holes in and Some scratchs on my fancy exhaust can.Just got the bike looking pretty over the winter but know it won’t stay pretty for long with my ham-fisted riding style. Picking the bike up later this evening and time enough to sort it out before racing on 4/5 April.
That's good going, how many miles has it done altogether, hoping regular maintenance keeps mine going as it approaches 28k miles, mostly "pottering" road miles though. Keep us mere mortals up to date with your racing exploits
+1, it's always great to read, if a little humbling as Wobbles' says. Just over 30k now mate, I just hope I'm not tempting that fate thing
Took the Thruxton out to my usual spot, a bit cooler than last week but thankfully the rain has washed some of mountain of salt off the roads. Daytona will be out next month, cant wait.
What an awesome looking bike Wobbly,I’ve heard they handle really well too, even if they didn’t i’d still want one.
I think most Triumphs are best in their class for handling, with an extra 25+kg's and heavy spoked wheels its obviously a bit slower to steer and tip-in than the Daytona but its very confidence inspiring and stable on its side, only limited slightly by the 160 rear tyre and twin shock suspension which are not always up to terrible British roads.
