  5. Having lost a job in March due to the company going bust, where I was a Audio/Visual Technician, setting up many shows and conferences in London....I now can't even bring myself to admit the job I do now, there are people I work with that have lower IQ's than a horse....and 60% speak Polish. When theres 2000 staff in one warehouse....that's alot of Polish!

...No shame there, mate - as long as it's something to help get you by - every job, no matter how menial, can be done with pride. Hell, I'd flip burgers for a living if it helped.

  7. Agreed D41, I've far more respect for people who will do anything to earn a living rather than take handouts from the state. Plus by doing any job it will be easier to get back into a job that is more to your liking. Its easier to find a new job if you already have one.

As someone who has lived/worked in a few EU countries I can assure you that I spoke my mother tongue when I was alongside other Brits! (Poland’s been in EU since 04)

Good on you for taking any job as I'm on the same page as ‘something coming in is better than nothing coming in’ but bad on you for the clumsy xenophobic remarks

  9. Maybe its in the interpretation, I took it that it was good that the Poles were willing get off their arses and do these 'menial' jobs, whereas loads of lazy brits will sit on their backsides accepting handouts from the state.

That's how I interpreted it too....

I spent much of yesterday cleaning our office cos we can't find a cleaner to do it at less than £10/hour.

Yes, I must have misinterpreted the statement that ‘people I work with that have lower IQ's than a horse....and 60% speak polish’ was in praise of them.

  12. I'm a Rope Access Technician (RAT) in the offshore industry. Jack of all trades master of none i'm afraid. The plus side is that it keeps me fit and lets me know i'm alive. Putting your trust in someone's know how of knots and some 13mm rope gets the blood pumping at times. Especially a couple of hundered meters up!!

  13. bugger that for a game of soldiers..

  14.

I know what you mean but once you get over the FEAR its allright.

They call us Dopes on Ropes for some strange reason!!

  19. im a training spanner thrower, (last year at college finally!!) yet again another in the Aviation industry, based at Heathrow airport, i repair and service all aircraft ground equipment, including equipment for the A380 of some 70ton push back tugs.

basically all the stuff from the cadburys advert when they are racing down the runway.......

its a laugh but slowly going down the pan, just hope i get to finish my apprenticeship first.......................

  20. Just to end the questions about my mention at the place I work at. I didn't mean to say the Polish are stupid - infact, alot of them are probably alot better than the English.

The other week we had 10 new staff start on the monday, and by Tuesday 6 had already quit....guess which ones stayed? Yeah, the Polish!

The only reason I mentioned the large percentage of Polish that work there, is purely becuase they don't mix with the English much, the canteen is half and half which I think is wrong (and I don't blame the polish - or the english) as every other work place I've been at, the Polish are normally really nice guys/gals.

On the plus side.....alot of Polish women are pretty hot.
