  4. David with out going over to the garage , i`m sure it`s only a three pin plug . Not five.
A mate (mechanic) seem`s to think a Suzuki reg-rec is the same but need to check this out .
Have heard about the R1 reg-rec fitting , i think it was Hazza , but dont quote me on this..

  6. British super sports Daytona had to retire due to rectifier fault would they have the same ones as ours

  7. Took mine off yesterday and there`s no sign of it being burnt out or any damage , so my mechanic mate could be right it , may have done the generator in - that`ll be a first but still getting one from aSV1000 same as the ones on our bikes and only £70 so when it arrives plug it in and , see if i have to spend a fortune at the stealer`s. Hopefully not ..

Don't rule out asking Triumph. OYT Aylesbury told me they would expect at least parts from Triumph on an 08 Striple.

    From my post: <a class="postlink" href="https://www.675.cc/675/posting.php?mode=quote&f=14&p=143390#pr143190">https://www.675.cc/675/posting.php?mode= ... 0#pr143190</a>

    Hi all,

I was riding my 675 today and as riding along happily at a steady speed following a car around the ring road minding my own business, smoke started coming from below the handlebars! I pulled the bike up PDQ and hoped off taking my key, afraid that it was going to blow up!

The smoke started to die away and I returned to the bike to have a look at the damage! Looking around the bike I couldn't seem to see anything so, put the key in the ignition and turned on the bike, pressing the immobiliser/alarm button before hand, the alarm beeped a couple of times and no lights showed on the dash board at all! Following that the alarm went off and I couldn't turn it off as you'd expect.

Fortunately I was on my way home and only about 10mins away. I called my Mrs to bring out the trailer and recovered the bike! Alarm still beeping as I travelled through town, with lots of stares as you'd imagine!

4 hours later the alarm is till going off, delighting my neighbours i'm sure!

I will be calling recovery tomorrow to take it back to Triumph where it was serviced 2wks ago!

I am thinking it could be the rectifier, but looking through the recitfier posts, no ones seems to have gone up in smoke whilst driving!! Very un-nerving to say the least and has got me thinking! Anyone else experienced this or got any thoughts?!

  10. I had the same problem with my alrm as you did Greg which i assumed was because the battery power was low, i have since replaced the battery twice, thinking that because i haven't used it much because I work away the alarm has been killing the batteries, but it might be time to accept the inevitable and get someone to look at the reg/rec.

  11. Okay here we go fitted the TL1000 reg-rec and hey presto charging at 13.88 volt`s so happy for now and a bargin price of £70 (got it through a mate in the trade so probably trade price) , the only down side is this , the connection`s are on the wrong side so will zip tie them together (4 pin and 3 pin) . Hope this is of some use , when i get back to the garage i will give the nunber of the TL unit..

Out riding on Saturday afternoon. Filled the tank up at the local garage then proceeded to go for a spin. After approx 20 miles the fuel light came on. A little after a mile later lost complete power. Tried to start it and just got the click sound so I knew the battery was dead. Triumph (Leicester dealer if that makes a difference) picked my bike up this afternoon and have done a good will gesture to replace the RR. Bike registered in 2010 so out of warranty ;)

  13. Well here's a weird (not a problem) , put the ole girl on track with her new TL1000 , reg-rec and she's hoicking the front wheel in 1st 2nd 3rd , now i'm not complaining - just happy (do now need a proper steering damper) . Could I have found hidden horsepower using this new reg-rec... This has me baffeld (and very happy)

  14. Mine failed just after first service on the ride home. Bike had about 620 miles on the clock. Bike just lost power as I was leaving motorway. Fuel light was on but knew it could not be fuel as I had full tank before I left her in and clocks only had 10 extra miles on when I picked her up.

Rectifier was found to be at fault and replaced under warranty. My bikes a 2009 ex display model with only 6 miles on it when I bought her last year.

  15. Mine died with 3K on the clock, it's an 09 model. First signs of any problems were, the bike not starting, dials dimming at random, then dead battery and buggered generator coil. I posted earlier thinking it was the generator coil. Took the cover off to get repaired and when I put it back on there was death, big death. Removed the the coil first and checked out for any grounding. Then the battery using a multimeter and an optimate4 charger. then chucked on a ducati Reg Rec and checked the battery again on the multimeter, def had a change in voltage, 11v on the old vs 13.8v with the new. Ordered one from Ebay, not an original, £115 which wasn't too bad. It is an identical match though, even down to the plug and play fittings. Worked first time, had to recharge the battery over the weekend though.

Is it just me or looking at the amount of people here who have had this issue, why ohh why hasn't a more robust Reg rec ever been produced. Ive also seen this issue on Honda's, Suzuki's, MV's, and Ducati's.

I'm not a sparky, so don't know much about the technical side of these little delicate darlings, but surely something can be done to protect against it happening?????

My first one went under warranty in 2010 (on an 09 bike). First symptom was the fuel light coming on. So I stopped and put fuel in. Of course it would not start after. Second one, I had been for a run around the mountain on the iom and decided on the way back round for another go to stop at Glen Helen for a bite to eat. After half an hour or so I came ack out and tried to restart it and it just clicked. No real symptoms before that, but it was a hot day and I was stuck in traffic in Douglas or a while.

  17. 2008 D675 with 5.3k on the clocks.

Was riding the bike into London today to get a replacement tyre. Stopped for 30minutes for a break and then went on my way again...round one corner in London and I decide to 'gun' it...I wasn't looking at the clocks but I felt the bikes revs go dool lally which I figured was the rear wheel spinning. Put her into second and it did it again...started to gurgle..."shit" I thought...whipped the clutch in and it was dead. Just before it died, the usual tell tale sign of the fuel light coming on and my clocks going nuts.

Once off the bike, every time I turned the engine on, the fuel pump wouldn't prime, exhaust servo wouldn't do anything... but the clocks would go nuts, with the rev counter doing a funny dance and usually sticking at 3k.

Got the bike recovered, put it on optimate and 3 hours later, it starts fine. Not a chance I'm going out on it as it is though! I had noticed that the seat does tend to get bloody warm but I figured this was just the underseat exhaust. Maybe it's my battery bubbling away....

Mine went on my 09 Daytona after 6000 mies. Riding home from work on dark cold winter night. Clocks and lights started to dim, engine losing power then everything cut out on a vey dangerous S bend on the A369. Had to wheel it across the road on a blind bend in the pitch black with no lighting wearing black leathers.

Was replaced at dealers under warranty. They alo found cracked header pipes which were also replaced.

Triumph uk denied there was a problem with the RRs despite me telling them about lots of anecdotal evidence from here! Were quite rude really! Swore I wouldn't get another triumph but am now rising an STR as the 675 triple engine is too sweet to say goodbye to!

  19. R/R failed on my '06 Daytona- bike plus R/R has done 24000 miles, engine has done 10000, oil light flickering even when cut off switch and ignition off, fuel light flicked on and off, dash back light flickering, rev counter went loopy, loss of power, indicators flashing too fast

Wrote to triumph and replaced as a good will gesture.
