Problem with my 675

    Hi guys,

    This is my first post here, I hope I am writing in the right board. I have an issue with my 2014 daytona and I wonder if you have any ideas about what the problem could be:

    10th Nov the battery died. The alarm went off all night until it killed the battery. So I got a new battery. 2 weeks later same thing happened... The triumph dealer gave me a new battery and said the battery must have been faulty as the electrics look OK and the alarm is fine... Well today the battery was dead... again...

    I ride my bike Monday to Friday, sometimes at the weekend also, so what could be wrong? The alarm is faulty and drains the battery? The battery is not charging?

    I can't guess what is wrong and the dealer insists in the bike and alarm being OK...

    Hi Antoni, & welcome to our friendly little forum.

    I would suggest that it does sound like a faulty alarm circuit. Is your bike under warranty still.?

    yup the bike is, but unfortunately the alarm isn't... the alarm is now 7 months out of guarantee... I had it on my previous 675, which was written off thanks to a guy driving a 4x4 and texting at the same time... but that is a story for another day.

    Thanks for the suggestion mate, I think I will remove the alarm and get a new battery, see if that fixes the problem.

    There is a strong consensus that the alarms are not worth having Antoni. Many members with Dealer supplied alarms have chosen to remove them.
    Trackers are the ultimate option, but a good strong chain & lock will work better than any alarm IMHO.

    I hope Mr 4x4 didn't damage you too badly mate.?

  6. The way its eating battery's it might worth check the RR / Regulator Rectifier too and they are cheaper too.
    New battery, can't you just recharge the dead one(s)?

    What make and model alarm?

    Are you sure the battery is getting charged when you're riding the bike? Have you any way of testing the battery?

    Apparently the battery charges (according to the dealer) but when I had the alarm crazy night episode, the battery was completely dead, beyond recharging point... The alarm is the Thatcham approved one sold by the dealer, the discount given by the insurer paid for half of it, so I thought it was a good idea to get it.

    The crash with the 4x4 was a nightmare... it took 14 months for it to be resolved because the driver denied, first to be involved in the accident, and afterwards any fault... luckily for me I took a few pictures, including one where you could see where the radiator liquid from the car started leaking, which was on my side of the road. To cut the story short, I had the option of a settlement leaving me £900 short or going to court, so I settled and moved on... I guess I should be happy I was not injured.

    Thanks for your help guys, I will have the battery circuit and the RR checked, hopefully I find the culprit!

    Any recommendations on trackers?

    Biketrac is the industry leader and tends to be well received. My friend with a Panigirly has one and rates it highly. Another friend is involved with a company called Midlands Motorcycle Security who fit them, and deal with all types of security, and she tells me Bike-trac has a 100% retrieval rate.

    Don't get the cheapo Oxford one!

    I keep deliberating a tracker. I can't work out if I'd like the peace of mind, at least if I go away for a week and don't get a text, I know it's still safe!

    But I then I don't know if I'd want it back with a knackered ignition barrel and having been messed about with by a scumbag. Maybe it's best just to take the insurance money...

    I have a 14 675R and keep it on charge with a C-TEK conditioning charger when not in use, it does not have alarm. Many times I have noticed it flash up the message LOW BATT on the dash, about 100 metres after leaving home after the ABS lamp goes off, but the message then goes away immediately. I've never worried about it, and just thought it was a little odd.
    The reason for mentioning the above is to suggest to you to put your bike on charge when not in use. C-TEK, Oxford, Optimate seem to be the good makes. Would save you keep buying batteries!

    +1 to that. You can also isolate the alarm with one of those blanking plugs.

    Thanks guys, this forum is amazing. I've never expected this amount of responses and so much info. I will do some research into a tracker. I think the alarm will go straight into the bin and get a tracker instead.

  14. I have a Biketrac and its excellent. Not only will you get a text/email but Biketrac also call you to make sure its all ok. You can log onto their site at any time and check where the bike is and it will send you a message if the battery on the bike drops below a certain voltage so you can stick it on charge. As has already been mentioned, I believe they have a 100% retrieval rate....including a Panigale which was on its way to Europe in a container when they found it.

    Personally I'd want my bike back. I'm sure the insurance company would rather pay out for a few scratched panels and a new ignition instead of a total loss. Apparently most bikes these days are nicked then stashed somewhere for a few days to make sure there isn't a tracker on them anyway so there's a high likelihood you'd get it back in 1 piece
