New Triumph Daytona 675 vs Old

Discussion in 'General' started by Triumphmark, Feb 21, 2013.

  1. Really is that why the title of the thread is New Triumph Daytona 675 Vs Old :?: Well holy shit batman...[/quote]

It's quite obvious what i mean with that, you piss on us 2013 owners in every thread, not just this one.

  2. No I stand up for the older models when we get all this "our shiny new toys are so much better than your old ones" don't mistake bitterness for testicular fortitude mate.

  3. Standing up for the old models ? Like that's even needed lol, you made a thread about your R1 (nice bike btw) and even there you go on about both the 2013 and it's owners (who are ofc happy when MCN praise the new bike) who bothers you so much. So that's your way of standing up for the older models then ? By standing by your R1 ? Yea that's logic for you..

  4. Take note of my signature dude you will see I own Two Daytonas and an R1. Then read back to Gary's post at the top of page 12 he says the 2013 model pisses over every single 600 and most of the litre bike class so I wrote a thread in response just to blow the trumpet a bit for my dear old R1. I love that bike and IMO the 2013 Daytona couldn't hold a candle to it. There you go that explained things a bit better for you or should I go get some crayons and paper for you?

Do we all need to agrue about any of this lads? We all love our bikes.......old, new, in pieces or fully together :-D

I have a mate who couldn't afford to keep his GSXR 600, now he has a 2001 fazer....not the prettiest of machines but it keeps him happy and it keeps a smile on his face from all the crap that is going on in his life....and thats the point IM trying to make.....if it makes you smile then thats all that matters :-D

BTW I love the look of the R1 and when I can during the summer I hope to take one out for test ride....abit nervous mind as its suppose to be a hooligan haha!! And the new Daytona...I didnt like it at first however when I saw it in the flesh it has grown on me and triumph wouldnt of changed the look that much if it was needed or to stay with times :)

I have a 2009 Daytona and I LOVE this bike.....it's keeps me smiling from ear to ear in any weather lol!! :)

  6. Point well made Ross and you are right it doesn't matter what bike you ride as long as it brings a smile to your face the whole reason I kicked off was because there was a hint of "my bikes better than yours" going on and I wasn't gonna have that not one bit.

The 2013 model is I have no doubt an excellent machine and I am sure it brings it's owners lots of pleasure and good luck to them.

  7. Nope, that's understandable, to be fair though Gary is refering to the MCN article and the claims they make in it :

    Some, not most.

  8. Agreed some not most however do you see why I got a little bit hacked off by it now? I am aware that on paper at least the newer models have the edge over the old but there was no way in hell I was going to let the bit about the litre bikes slide as I've already said.

  9. This is brilliant

  10. When I'm riding around on my old school (2012 model) 675R I never think.... "God I wish I had a 2013 675R model instead"

I usually think, holy shit this bike is good, how the hell can I learn how to ride it better haha

Only two conditions in life.... No Bike, or Got a Bike..... Like Sad or Happy

Its like two people arguing about who is happier... I'm happier than you, no you're not I'm happier than you... No I'm fucking happier.... and on.... and on....

  11. No, that's not what this was. It was more like him saying that his girfriend was prettier and that ours looked like a toad and had huge boobs and no arse. Then some of us said of course not, are you blind man ? Some even pointed to centerfolds of said woman, where she was tested and compared to the other and mere subtle differences were found, most positive in our favour. Another mag even went as far as saying that our girl was the fairest of them all ( bar a few really exotic girls that most of us would never even get to talk to ) "LIES !" he then boldly proclaimed " my R1 can and will offer superior experiences than all of your ugly and shiny new arseless girlfriends!"

Atleast that's my take on it, love makes everyone beautiful even if they might be lacking in the posterior department. I still wouldn't let anyone ride her but me ;)

  12. At what point have I ever said it was a lie? Think you need to review what was said, I disagreed with an article and aired my views on it and suggested another test to see what the result would be when you stick a tuned 675r against tuned litre bikes. At no point have I ever said that it was a lie furthermore I even admited that on paper at least the newer model has the edge over the old so what part of that did I say was lies? I couldn't really give a flying fuck if you have the prettiest bike in the world (you don't IMO) all I was doing was expressing my opinions on a comment that was said. Your interpretation is a bit wide of the mark. Have you ever ridden an R1? I've ridden the 2013 Daytona and quite frankly I couldn't see what the fuss was about I'd go as far to say as it was more disappointing than waking up to a fat bird with no boobs. The reason I didn't do a write up on it was because you would start crying that I was hating on your bike when in all fairness I just expressing my opinion and take on it.

Its got two wheels, that's all that matters right?

    Group hug?

  14. I'm not even going to comment what you are writing here because you are missing the point, i was kidding, making light of the whole situation and putting it to bed sort of, that was my intention anyway. I just laid the whole debate out in a slightly different way than what Arrow said as i never once said anything negative about the older Daytonas as i love them aswell. I'm sure you had your reasons and the others have aswell but my point was that you and everyone here will always love what you have, care for it more than what others have and that's perfectly fine. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, i think we have established that by now. Can we agree on that part atleast ?

  15. I did agree on it earlier bottom line in all of this opinions are always going to differ you clearly believe passionately in your opinion as I do in mine. Like I have said many times before I am sure that the 2013 model brings its owners lots of pleasure and satisfaction and I get that I really do. If it's made some of you convert from Jap bikes to triples then good for you that is a victory for Triumph.

My point and the whole reason I started kicking off was because I saw this thread going down the 2013 bike rules over everything path and there was no way I was not going to voice my opinion on that. If it's getting good write ups great happy days but nobody will ever convince me that it is the bike to end all bikes. I have loyalty to my old fashioned Daytona's and I'm sure you have to your 2013 model.

So to put this to bed now I respect your opinion and I trust you can accept mine they might be different but niether is right or wrong they are just statements at the end of the day.

  16. Perfect, thanks :)
And yes, i have ridden a R1 but a a pre-crossplane one, the much older 1989 model. Scared me shitless, i owned a 85 Kawasaki GPZ 600 r then (traded it in for the ZX6R later the same year) that had 85 hp and weighed (225kg wet) about as much as the R1 but had roughly half the hp. That was a sobering experience to say the least !

Just read the new MCN review.

I have a 2012 675r. I love it. I have never and probably will never get even close to 100% of it's performance because of my lack of ability and skill level. I love the underseat exhaust and the overall look of the bike.

I got into biking and I only wanted to buy a British Motorbike. Luckily it was the best then in it's class. However times move on. The only thing I'm concerned about that a BRITISH BIKE remains the best in it's class. I enjoyed seeing that it pretty much wee'd all over the competition. It wasn't totally fair as the other models seemed to be more the standard ones. However, If you have the money and that's what's on offer then that's the test. The 2013 675r won!

I think it's still a beautiful bike. More importantly it's the fruit of a bunch of (in the main) British engineers and boffins, putting their heads together and whooping Johnny Foreigner. The Brits sat on their laurels and let the Japanese take the market (and well done them!). Now with China on the rise and their bikes being produced and sold, the focus has always got to be on the very best, most technical superior, best handling bike that can be produced for that money. Triumph were in two minds about developing it from what I've heard. If they had taken that route, then it'd have ended up being the R6 in that article. Still good but not good enough and old.

One paragraph that stood out to me and they are talking about some mega bikes in this piece :

There are few bikes on the market which are as rewarding to ride fast as the Daytona 675R-infact,i cant think of any.Its not only the fastest of all the 600s, butits the most fun too. In a few weeks you,ll be able to read about our test of the new bmw hp4,ducati 1199 panigale R,mv agusta f4 rr,aprilia rsve4 factory. we rode them at the same time as the 600s and when we,d finished serious testing and just wanted to ride the circuit, all we wanted to do was ride the triumph again. With our race tyres fitted the 675R seems uncrashable-you never feel like you,re getting anywhere near its limit. Grip and confidence is absolute and even through the fast sections, which are more suited to a 1000. the triumph never feels slow or breathless and theres loads of room to move around. Hodgson pulls 1.22g under maxium braking with those mighty brembo monoblocks, which datalogging expert bruce dunn tells me is the kind of figure you,d see at the sharp end of a race -brake any harder and the Daytona 675R would go end over end. and the quickshifter is one of the best q,shifters outside a race paddock.

And the write-up on the road test is as good
