Hey Everyone! Ive got my CBT 3.30 Friday afternoon, (so for your own safety- stay off the roads!), anyone got any tips for me on how to pass it?!! :?
Ha haaa! thanks N3RDY! I just laughed so hard a little bit of wee came out! Nice Steffy, very nice, you sick perv. I've heard he likes to ride bareback (ie. no panties) lol
On the grounds of Health and Safety I'd advise that that's unsafe when partaking in ones motorbike test for the first time! Some sensible suggestions would be nice!!! Geeesh!
OK, more serious suggestions. It was all different in my day, all you had to do was buy the bike, get it insured and off you go, so by the time I did my test, I'd had loads of riding experience. I almost stuffed up on my test though as I was wearing motocross style boots, and the straps got caught on the footpegs during the U turn. My instructor said I should not have tucked my trousers into the boots, wear them over the top. I do know of a young lady that used to ride off road for years and was fine - on the flat. Come her CBT, she found out she couldn't do a hill starts. I don't know if you have anywhere off road that you can practice them before the CBT? I'm not so sure whats in the CBT, but I don't think its that hard. Try not to be nervous, I'm sure you'll do fine. Best of luck!!
Same as N3rdy, try to get Gregor to take your bike to a private piece of road and then have a practice session, but beware the arguements that may ensue following the "Not like that!!" moments - trust me I speak from experience, I got my Instructor Brother to teach my oldest son when we got him his first bike. Teen strop averted.... Failing that, perhaps a clear visor on the day and false eyelashes ? Good luck DG.
Na, don't do that, you can't fail it's only Compulsory Basic Training. I did it!! Tour taught about the road, brakes etc it's really simple, it's not a test just a learning day.
How are you going to do it at 3.30? It's normally a 1 day affair. 9 till 4 ish, safety talk, equipment, road stuff, etc
Yes but you passed it in a short skirt Steffy! That hardly fills me with confidence! lol Mind you, maybe thats definite proof that it is easy, if Steffy can pass it. Cheers guys, yea Gregor has taken me out once for a test ride on the local industrial estate - without a domestic dispute fortunately! Mind you...he wouldnt dare! Hill starts and U-turns......good point, will practice them.
Not sure, think the bloke on phone told Greg is can go on til 7.00 ish depending on how me and the other learners get on. Hopefully finish it asap!
Not sure a U turn is in the CBT, it was introduced to give some Basic info to new 16 year olds, and to try to stop them killing themselves. It's not really a test. Just the law giving you basic info and road awareness.
Cool, so hopefully I can use my driving experience, and adapt it to riding the bike, taking onboard all the extra awareness and safety tips etc that come with riding a bike. At 27 at least I'm not a complete newbie on the roads so shouldnt stuff it up too much with any luck. Still scared!!! Ahh!! lol
That's about right, the B being for Basic, so's you don't out yourself while picking up some experience mostly, it's road positioning and getting into the lifesaver habit - try doing it in your car as well to help yourself get the habit entrenched. It works. The practice on the private ground is to make the clutch and gears as instinctive as possible so you don't have to devote too much thinking to those and can concentrate on everything else. I'm sure Greg has explained it all anyway.
Yea thats the hope! We practiced going up and down the gears, clutch control, front and back braking, went over the controls etc. I was glad to get my bike before the CBT so i could get a bit of practice on that side of things to free up the brain for other stuff like you say Deegee!
Indeed one of them heres a thread that kind of spun off topic so title was altered to suit. Dog Pics by forum members
Yep I did CBT in 2003, did yewwies, emergency stop, figure of 8, basic stuff really. It's not really an exam, just sit back, relax - very important that, if you're stressed out you'll have jerky inputs into the bike controls, and that will make the bike misbehave - and enjoy the ride
Sorry to be brutally honest, but it is possible to fail. I've know 3 people fail it. One was the young lady that couldn't do hill starts, another 2 dropped their bikes. As long as you can prove basic skills and don't do anything silly I'm sure you'll pass it. Like you say, you're already an experienced road user, you're already half way there!
