Things have been quiet on the Tarty 675!!

Mainly due to the fact road riding has become a bit of a dull thing for me.. Lost the enthusiasm for it.

So project track slag is go!!

Starting with a cheap seat unit, thanks to T_Daytona675.

Needed quite a bit of care so brought it in with me to work on nights this week, free supplies and a workshop.

Stupidly didn't take a picture before starting but there were several cracks in the fibre glass and holes. Originally gloss black, again very tatty.

Filled them with industrial 'magic metal' seriously solid stuff.

    Filed down

    Rubbed down smooth-ish

    Primer.

Not on nights for another two weeks now so round 2 will be go then.

In the mean time iv bought some Dunlop GP211 tyres and carbon fibre frame and swingarm protectors ;)

I got them from Race Products Ltd at Market Rasen iirc, they were recommended to me from a friend that was racing at the time, I'd asked whether another companies products were any good that he'd used, he had nothing good to say about the company I'd asked about but instead recommended Race Products as he'd found them reliable, good quality kit and although not the cheapest, they were the strongest he'd found in a crash.

Becoming more active with my bike again it seems! Not that I mind of course :)

Night shifts this week again. Good time to do some 'homework'

After finally getting my carbon frame protectors which are stunning, I trial fitted them and noticed how dull some of my genuine triumph carbon looks.

So this week at work iv started rubbing back some of the crappy worn areas of the carbon and cleaning them up ready for lacquer.

    Heel Guard Before:

    Rubbed back:

    After:

Didn't take photos of any other bits but have done both heel guards and rear hugger. Will be doing my infills soon too.

All I did was clean the parts thoroughly, 2000grit Emory cloth, clean again and lacquer lightly 1st coat, heavier 2nd coat and then double coat on the last one.

A picture to show the worn heel guard next to my hugger after two layers of lacquer

Also a trial for of my race seat unit after it had been primered, currently spraying it black at work also

Carbon swingarm protector being stuck on hence the cable ties, also roughly aligned the frame protector to get an idea

When my boss asks if I have been busy... I say yes very.. He doesn't need to know it's not work related right?

Drilling my carbon protectors the other night.

Shows how glossy they are and why I'm lacquering other parts to suit

Wheels out, getting my new Dunlop GP211 M Tyres fitted. Can't wait to be back on Dunlops!

Carbon matches up much better with my new frame protectors! :)

Here is a comparison of the infills I done tonight

And finally finished lacquering my seat unit

    Thanks :)

Yeah in some sense. It can be used for both but we always have the attachment for the front on it as we have more than one rear already

    What lacquer are you using?

I've got a load of carbon waiting to go on my kwak. I was going to cover the carbon parts with protective film as the shape of the swingarm means your boot rubs on the left side.

I've already got heel guards on but I used film to cover those. If the lacquer is any good I'll try your method.

    Ta.

I have just been using Halfords Clear Lacquer. Just be sure to take your time and slowly build up the layers.

On my rear mudguard I ended up doing 5-6 coats.

The difference is night and day, really pleased

All id say is really really make sure the carbon is clean first. I can recommend some sort of anti-static cleaner! Works great :)

Cheers. It sounds like a project to do over winter. I've got a new set of plastics ready to go on the kwak so next year it'll look like a new bike.
