Great write up and pics. Interesting to see touring luggage on a spotsbike - and why not? I tested a used 848 before I got my new Daytona. I agree about the special feeling but if I'm honest the Ducati felt lumpy in the lower gears and nearly fried me on a short trip! The 675 is superior at virtually everything except perhaps image. Ps - Your riding takes you on different surfaces and speeds - do you change tyres?
And people say sports bike can't tour! A bit of a Pirelli fan boi to be honest, and usually go for a tyre to 'try' and do everything I need, bearing in mind I don't often use the bike when the weather is appalling. In the past I've used Corsa III, then Diablo Rosso Corsa. I'll need to change the Supercorsas in another few hundred miles, and haven't decided what for yet. As you see, I'm after better mileage than the Supercorsas (but acknowledge the type of tyre I want means they still won't last too long) but also decent track grip. Has anyone used Diablo Rosso Corsa on the 675? Opinions?
I think you'll be on your own on here then Sure, a lot of peeps like the supercorsas when using for what they are designed for, but I've not heard a good word on here about any other corsa. Tyre of choice seems to be m7rr ( aren't metzelers the exact same as Pirelli except name?) Or s20 or t30 depending on mileage required.
I thought that about Metzeler, But I watched a MotoUSA Tyre test video and it said that they are from Germany where as Pirelli are definitely Italian. Back in the day when it was Metzeler 'RennSport' and Pirelli 'Dragon Corsa' I think they were. I am ditching my SuperCorsa's, I might actually sell them on here as some love them for trackdays, but I need something that gives me confidence when it's not 15+ Degrees.
Sold My 848 in October for a return to the 675. The Ducati was achingly beautiful, it really was. I had a 2013 in plain red with all the nice bits like rear seat cover and some full titanium arrows. It was unfortunately just too difficult to live with, even with a different sprocket (to make it easier in town) and re-flashed ECU (to make it smoother fuelling at low speed) and lighter clutch action it was still just such an effort to ride, and I had to be in the mood to go out on it. So far, I have not had anything other than superb rides out on the 675R so I really agree you made the right choice. I hear the 899 is better, but I still don't think it's going to be as usuable while retaining character as the 675R, plus the heat on the Ducati is a major PITA! the 1299 I rode was cooking the underneath of my legs and you just don't want that hassle. Did I mention though that the Ducati is.. however.... disgustingly pretty!
There's ten of us tour most years and over half are sports bikes brilliant fun once you get to the twistys and I have never had a drama with luggage always pack light. I also love the Daytona having the first one in 2013 and like a fool traded it in but missed it so much brought another one in September 14 love it and I will not be letting this one go, I used my 13 on track and it was way better than me ha ha but one of the most easiest bikes to ride on track and it's no slouch I was hanging on to a new snape gsxr 750 down the back straight at Snetterton. For all those that hate the supercorsas send them my way superb tyre for summer riding and trackdays a proper sports bike tyre IMO. I am also a Pirelli man I have used the Rosso corsa again excellent but the best all round is the Rosso 2 I have used the Rosso 2 on litre bikes on road and track can not fault them and last September done a tour around Scotland cbr1000rr 12/15 c and wet at times no dramas. My other bike tuono v4 has Rosso 2 on but rear is nearly shot so going to put the angel gt on next as this will be my touring bike and wet weekend bike. A Ducati will not be replacing my 675R I don't care how pretty the duke is.
Two of my mates have them on there bmw s1000rr they rate them highly like me and you. If people don't want there crap Pirelli tyres send em to me ha ha
Welcome in mate great write up love the pics. don't think we've had a wrote up as good as that for a while!
I'm Pirelli through & through on my Daytona. It's currently wearing its 3rd set & I wouldn't insult its feelings with anything else, well she has wore racetecs once but I told her they were the same just more expensive.
Decent intro that and welcome Good to see that you make Eu land runs as there are some cracking roads and places to see out there. I'm living in South Sweden and am able to pop to a Denmark within an hour and Norway in about 3.
Hi Ben Do you track day at Brands? I'm guessing you must if you're a fellow Londoner Maybe bump into you there, sometime?
I try and do as many as possible, I was lucky enough to live in Italy for a while, so done Vallelunga and Mugello. But yes, living where I do, I do Brands far more than anywhere else. I just try and do the full GP circuit where possible. I adore the GP circuit, really good fun. I'll post up on here whenever I'm doing a track day, hopefully get to say hello to people face to face. I do shift work though, so often plans only come together at fairly short notice...
Good lad. Same for me, everything's always last minute, it seems. I've never done the GP circuit... That's on the list of things to do this year
A bit late here but welcome in, great intro and lovely pics. I had to laugh at your comment about riding up to Yorkshire via Wales (I recently nipped out for two litres of milk from the nearby diary shop and took a 250km detour).
