im more than aware of restrictions that can be imposed on bail. ...oh and of course no one has ever left a country without a passport. if some "proper" criminal type were arrested for attempt. rape people would have a fit if they were given bail... no reason this guy should be different. serious sexual offences, murder etc should not be bailed imo...
Expressing some more anti-American views again, O.S.???....there's a huge surprise. He's been granted bail of $1M and released on house arrest with an ankle bracelet....happy now?? Doubt it.
Darren, you left out the $5m insurance bond and the 24 hour armed guard, paid for by DSK. So no need for insurance as if he tried to escape, he'd be shot. And he's not out till tomorrow, US bureaucracy is to blame. I understand that the grand jury proceedings (equivalent to British indictment proceedings - ie when the magistrates decide whether there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed) were held behind closed doors so we still have little idea what the accuser's case is.
I'm not speculating. The not very pleasant lawyer Shapiro has disclosed some of his evidence, so I can comment on that. It's not speculating to ask where's the corroboration.
You're right...it's not speculation, it's just plain obtuse..."corroboration" in a rape case???.....most rapes aren't exactly carried out in public, now are they??? In other, unrelated news:- The CIA killed John F.Kennedy. President Obama was really born in Kenya. Santa Claus is real. ...So is "Nessie". George Bush masterminded the 9/11 attacks. Elvis Presley is alive & well, and currently working at a gas station just outside of Mobile, Alabama. You guys crack me up!
You do make me laugh mate, considering you originate from ‘tup North’ you are more American than apple pie. You ever seen ‘Goodness Gracious Me’? as you remind me of some of the characters in it?
No Darren, I'm not speculating. You rightly use my words... if I were speculating then I would be backfilling the evidence. But I haven't done that. As re corroboration, yes of course you need it in rape claims. Forensic evidence - body fluids, signs of a struggle, cuts and scratches - usually does this. Otherwise it's her word against his. And that of course is grossly unfair, both to the alleged victim and to the accused.
For a proper evaluation of the forensic evidence you need to take it from both the 'alleged victim' and the accused person, do you not??....How would it be possible to obtain such evidence from the accused if he was allowed to leave the country...you couldn't, it's as simple as that. Statements from the victim suggest that DSK was indeed the person who purportedly attacked her....she also picked him immediately out of a line-up. The chauffeur who drove DSK to the airport has also stated that he was in a highly nervous condition throughout the journey...now that's "hearsay"...not something that is admissible in a court...but it's enough for an arrest....NYPD has so far acted correctly - they have to...prominent cases like this come under intense scrutiny, this thread is a reflection of that....they simply can't afford to make mistakes with something that is potentially so important. Hardly surprising really.....I've spent half my life here, and the vast majority of my adult life also. Haven't seen it.
Considering the man murdered hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Iraqis for shits 'n' giggles, I can never understand why so many people find it so inconceivable that he would murder a couple of thousand Americans.
^^^^^^^^^ The United States is not strictly speaking a sovereign nation, is it a Federation of 50 States....but it can be referred to as "sovereign" as there's not really a set standard for what determines "sovereignty"....for instance, France is a Republic, and it also has a President...it is also considered a "sovereign nation" - It's a vague area...Wales is often referred to as being a country, when in fact it is an English principality.
Hmm....you may be opening a whole new can of worms with that one.....Clarke is totally correct on his views that short prison sentences do not rehabilitate offenders...but his solution, longer community service sentence, is an absolute joke....as are his views on rape. Longer sentences are the answer. And bring back capital punishment.
It was ironic mate - I wasn't really suggesting Ken Clarke should be consulted about the situation with Dominique Strauss-Kahn
