Hi people, as some of you may know i bought a honda vfr recently, its had a good service and the mechanic has pointed out to me that the exhaust is blowing on the rear down pipes, its due its mot in a month, is there a way of temporarily fixing it to get it through its mot? cant really afford to buy a new exhaust at the moment but hopefully soon. chees
The only true "capital investment" I've had to make on my BabyBlade was a stainless Steel exhaust manifold. After an impressive 20+ years of neglect the OE mild steel one finally failed. If it's failed somewhere discreet you could try the old "gumgum + coke can + jubilee clips" trick.?
It only needs to be secure and gas tight to pass the MOT. So just do a good bodge. Sent from an Android
Capital NO you can try and wrap it but if its a blown rust spot if you try and weld it the material just blows wider that's why the welding looks crap they've welded with minimum amps to fill the void and buying second hand is a mine field they could be just as bad sorry
Exhaust putty? I used it to seal an exhaust slip on that had a gap that was blowing. If you use enough to get it inside the exhaust and then sand it down on the outside it may work.
OK there is a bodge, but its a bodge I know has served for a AHEM extended while for some friends emery the offending area cut shim steel to suit and wrap with single sided sticky aluminium tape if your struggling to find some PM me
does putty work? i was told that it didnt on bikes as they had higher preasures than cars ok thanks manu, i've actually got some aluminium tape, i've got a month so I guess i'll experiment!
its an 89 vfr400, yeah i've seen a couple but worried about the condition, do you think it will be hard to fit? as its a v
Can you take a photo of where it's blowing? It can be a bit tricky replacing the exhaust. Bikes as old as them will quite often snap a stud.
If you can still get an exhaust bandage use one of those, but cure it using a heat gun or blow lamp, that way it's hard before it has to deal with any exhaust pressure. Just make sure that there's nothing going to get damaged or burnt first though! Written off burn outs won't pass an MOT.
