I'm sure you'll all think this is a stupid question, but what is the standard exhaust header made of?

I'm planning on sawing one in half tomorrow and a bloke at work is trying to convince me that it's made of something other than stainless, and that the dust generated by an angle grinder will be harmful, so I should do it with a hacksaw instead, but I can't be arsed with that...

Surely I can do it with a grinder, maybe with a paper mask or something?

  2. Pretty sure it's steel. What does he think it is?

  3. If it's not magnetic it's either stainless or aluminium. Either way you're safe cutting it.

  4. Stock won't be anything exotic.

I thought it's made of pretty crappy grade stainless steel?

  6. Yep, crappy grade stainless Steel is my vote also.

  7. yep they are stainless, otherwise most peoples exhaust would have rotted thru by now...
