Do you give your bikes names? Do you assign them personalities? Do you give them genders? I started off simply enough with Black Triumph. I think the name's fairly self explanatory. Then came Puppy, because it looked like an eager little bouncy puppy with its 'ears' (mirrors) folded back for track days. After Puppy came, er, Not Puppy. As in, FFS, I've sold Puppy, I must remember that this is NOT Puppy when I'm referring to the bike. I had brief spell of being without a Triumph and I had Ninge the 636 Ninja in the garage. 10/10 for imagination with that name, huh? I came to my senses with a return to the best bike in the world with Froo, the 675R with the numberplate 'FRU. Although they were all named, they didn't have genders or personalities as such, other than the names they were called when there were issues with them. And oh my, have there been a lot of them. Then came Steffy. It's named after the shortened version of the screen name of the person I brought it from, and started off as just being called Captain Steffydog's Daytona. Which isn't the kind of short and snappy name that's convenient to use. And Steffy has definitely been the problem child of the family, has some challenging behavioural issues and most definitely has its own personality. I love Steffy. I sometimes 'kin hate Steffy. I have a whole range of emotions for this bike, but out of all of the bikes I've owned, this is the one that will never be sold. Still gender neutral though. And lastly there's Bertha the BMW. She's big, she's beautiful and she's a she. I was describing her to my sister when I first got her and she called her a right Big Bertha, which has stuck. The name's incredibly apt as it's an old Germanic name meaning "the bright one". She's very much the supermodel of the family as she's beautiful, expensive yet has zero personality.
See if you can guess my bikes from what i call them Streety Tona Sprinty apart from the bmw gsa which is called the elephant
You haven't? You're not a real bike owner Gerald??? That's not an obvious name for a Daytona. One of Mr J's old bike was called Start Ya Bitch, which it got called on a regular basis.
You're probably right there Janey. I've been told a great many times, by very many other motorcyclists that I'm "not a real biker" .. I do own bikes, and I am real-ish so perhaps not entirely correct.? However, on balance, I can probably understand the reluctance for any association..
LoL, I don't think that I've been a 'real' biker since I hit middle age and realised that a car is warmer/drier/more convenient/doesn't make me ache after half an hour. My car's do have names though...
Weren't you trying to sell her recently? Or am I being particularly senior this evening and thinking of someone completely different?
I was/am, there’s a part off me that carnt let her go and the mrs has stopped mentioning it to me so hopefully it won’t get sold, I doubt it will as I’ve never advertised it (don’t tell the mrs) Sent from my iPhone using ]][emoji[emoji6]][emoji6]][emoji6][emoji[emoji6]][emoji6].cc
