Over the last month I have lost 5kg. I admit I haven't been eating or sleeping properly, have had major stress since November but I do not feel unwell.

Should I be concerned that it may be an underlying medical problem?

You wouldn't believe how much stress and bad sleep can affect weight loss. Mix that with eating well and your bound to lose weight. Chin up mate and get past the stress and the sleeping and eating will get better.

Stress kills people, rapid weight loss suggests something potentially nasty - ffs go to your quack and put your mind at rest, you'll probably cut the stress just by doing that.

Sounds like the stress is getting to you..... I've been undergoing the same thing and have lost nearly 20lb.....sleep patterns seem OK, but my eating habits are dreadful. I eat one small meal once every two days... the sandwich I ate yesterday was the first thing I'd eaten since Friday.

Another vote for it being stress & anxiety related mate. You need to try to try to find some structure & drive in your life again.
Once you’ve started to take control of your life again, issues like this will probably solve themselves.
Not long to the fest, & summer's coming. :D

Probably best to get to the Quacks.

That said stress and worry can be intransigent opponents and have very real physical effects so don't start worrying about that too.

TBH I'm in a similar position having dropped the thick end of two and a half stone since November. Bet my bloody leathers will be falling off when I de-mothball the 'bike.

Give yourself a slap and get medical advice/treatment/counselling. Wallowing in self pity will get you nowhere. Get as active as you can, exercise will give you a buzz, you'll feel better after, even if it is one of Steffys lonely moonlit walks gazing at the stars ;) Then smash in some calorific food. Just don't start drinking, doesn't make things better like some people think. Hope you feel better soon.

cheers Tony b- have started exercising, got to give up the smokes, I'd practically given up and now back upto 10-15 a day  getting an app tomorrow.... will give myself a slap in the morning! As for the drink, not been one to seek solace in the bottle... can't deal with the hangovers! Have a holiday booked end of month, bit of sunshine for the week should see me right and also be the chance to make the all important decisions :D I'm 99% of the time a glass half full type of person, guess that's why this all a bit alien to me!

    Good advice!

I've struggled with alcoholism for most of my life, and I just about had it kicked when the wife left....fell straight back into my old ways, although thankfully not to the degree I've been at during some stages of my life.......plus, alcohol is both a depressant, and an appetite suppressant, so it's about the worst thing you can do.

I've just checked my weight, and it's coming back up nicely.......truth be told I'm quite happy with it. Another factor to consider is since I haven't been working it's only natural that I'd lose some muscle mass, and muscle is much heavier than fat.

It ain't no joke. Serious and unexplained weight loss should be investigated down the doc's.

Personally I find it hard to keep any form of weight and it annoys the hell out of me as I look like a streak of piss. My mates say I turn sideways and disappear. It comes to something when at age 31 size 30 jeans are too big around my waist. The doc did blood and pee tests and told me that there was nothing wrong, 'some people are like that.'

I’m the same. Ordered a pair of a* leather pants last week and when they showed up yesterday they fitted me about as snugly as an Ethiopian in giant haystacks wresting suit.

Still rather be skinny than “rotund” though.

What is the world coming to when an adult asks a biking forum for medical advice - fuck sake man, get yourself to the doc's

Perhaps he is just turning to his mates like the rest of use would when somethings not right, nothing to do with it being a biking forum
