Are the face lifted bikes wheel substantially lighter than the 2012 wheel and has anybody done the swap?
A few have done the swap mate, this thread may illustrate for you.: https://www.675.cc/675/threads/wheels-for-2013-675r.27771/#post-368496
Cheers StM, I did find that on a search but has anyone weighed them to see the difference? Also most people want to go the other way just so they have a set of WOW but I'm thinking purely in terms of weight difference and the saving in unsprung weight on the earlier bike.
I'm pretty sure that @Trouble was one of the first to fit the latest wheels on her bike. She's quite good with details & such, so may have checked the difference.? Hth.
I've been called 'anal' before, or little miss OCD. So I guess this was a bit more polite. I'm probably one of the slowest with the change. Hollywood actually put a set of 2013+ wheels on his Thundercat last year. I am only just doing mine now (collecting my wheels tomorrow). Mine will be 2006 - 2013 ('cos Larry's 11 years old now ... eeek!!!) so the weight difference will be more than the 12 to 13
The weight difference for Hollywood was quite a bit, but they were put on this, his Thundercat, so won't really help you I'm afraid. Now they were some heavy wheels:
Just found this comparison between marchesini forged rims and stock 09's and there's only 1lb14oz difference for both wheels combined. The standard wheels must be seriously light then? http://www.triumph675.net/forum/showthread.php?t=58231#/topics/58231?page=1
Ok, here goes. But let me just set the scene so there is no ambiguity and also so I can lay out the troll bait properly My 13+ wheels have disks, no sprocket carrier, metzeler k3 scrubs at ~30 psi each My <13 wheels have disks, no sprocket carrier and no tyres mounted, but I did put the correct tyre on top of the rim on the scales. Tyres are half used metzeler m7rr, but obviously at 0 psi, so may need to adjust for the weight of the compressed air in the 13+ set... I do not know if they are 06/09 or 10/12 wheels if that makes any difference. I did not take note of any wheel weights on the rims. 13+ front 10.7kg 13+ rear 12.3kg <13 front 10.2kg <13 rear 13.0kg what do you make of that then? Not quite the result I expected tbh.
Wow! Nor me, just 200g difference! Doesn't seem to be worth the work, although I prefer the design of the 13on ones.
Conversely, if you are only interested in the weight saving and not the aesthetics, then 500g or 700g weight saving could be had depending on which bike you run. Could be a few shavings on a lap time for someone who knows how to make use of it. Would make no difference to me though
So, I picked my wheels up this morning (thanks @RSV675) in lovely condition, very pleased. Then the struggle to get the 2013+ wheels into a 2006.................................... Actually no struggle at all, took about 5 mins. Front went straight in. Then the rear, spaced it out with the 2 abs discs I had and quickly ground of the sticky out nob on the rear calliper, perfect. Easy peasy. Weight difference 2013+ vs 2006 Front 0.8kg lighter Rear 0.6 kg lighter. Here he is with his new wheels, will be getting them painted the appropriate colour over winter.
interesting that your front wheel is so much lighter, when mine appears to be that much heavier @Trouble
I know, how odd. I did read somewhere (can't remember where) that the wheels can vary in weight even in the same model. Were yours the oldest ones? Would be interesting to weigh them bare, so we could actually compare the wheel only. I did mine with wheel, tyre and discs (not sprocket carrier). My old wheels have actually got worn wets on and the new ones are new, so logically the new tyres may actually be affecting the weight a bit too.
Tyres are quite variable in weight, 13+ wheel is definitely lighter. Not sure about the 13+ discs though, as I think they are thicker to help stop them warping on track
