    Hi All,

Most of you will know the amount of trouble I have got myself into with the Police this week on account of my number plate and exhaust so I just thought I would stick this thread on for anybody who has a Two Brothers exhaust or wants to get one for their beast.

    Tail Tidy -
You would have thought it would be ok to use the new tail tidy that comes with the new exhaust right? Wrong! Turns out that the Police (aka Bacon, Filth, Rozzers, Pigs, SS or whatever you want to call them) don't like your number plate being positioned above your rear hugger. They say it should be directly beneath the exhaust because it acts as a shield for stones that are flicked up by your tyre I did try to argue this point but on road safety they will have your trousers down with no lube. However all was not lost I found this handy little site http://www.d3-components.co.uk/#/contact-us/4532594922 who custom make Tail Tidy's for the two brothers exhaust both the M2 and M5 they cost 35 quid postage and come with a little number plate light all included. You'll have to mount the indicators where it says to in the instructions but personally I think they look better there anyway. The New tail tidy replaces the bracket that goes round the exhaust so remember to keep the rubber sleeve that comes with the bracket for the new exhaust as you will need to use this on the tail tidy. It then bolts through the top and holds the exhaust in place.

    The P1 Power Cone -
This acts as the baffle for the exhaust now originally I ran my exhaust without this in and it sounds sweet as a nut without the baffle in and makes a lot of noise lots of pops and bangs on the overrun and loud bangs when you upshift through the gears. However having put the P1 in last night to save me getting hassle from the Police I can say it isn't really too bad you do get pops and bangs on the overrun still but the exhaust roar is dulled down and it ticks over quieter so you can hear the triple engine more than the exhaust but when the baffle is out you don't really hear the engine at all at tick over or any other time.

I will be removing my baffle when I do ride outs in groups etc as the Police will have a tougher job stopping me for it when I am in a group. To be honest it was more my plate that got me in trouble than anything else but they did look over the exhaust at the same time and claimed it wasn't road legal even with the baffle but they cannot enforce that as there is no legislation that says they can otherwise they would have seized my bike.

Be careful when removing the screws for the baffle I managed to snap one in place last night so will have to drill it out at a later date but just be careful and gentle with them and you will be fine.

Hope this has proved helpful and useful to anybody with a TB exhaust and provides a good point of reference for anybody thinking about buying one.

  2. Nice write up matey! I guess I'll order P1 just in case. The question is... should I go for gold or red? ;)

Hehe I've got the gold in mine dude doesn't look too bad to be fair goes quite nice against the carbon fibre but yeah worth having it on your person along with a star head screw driver then at least you can put the baffle in at the road side if you really need to I can do it inside 5 mins it's so easy.

  4. Here are some pics of cable routing... not the best quality but you get the picture ;) I have to tidy it up a bit more.

BTW... has anyone with TBR can had any problems with the electrics? It's all quite exposed to water and other crap from the road. I covered all connectors with thick layer of dielectric grease but I'm not sure if that's enough protection. I guess long hugger would help a bit.

Yeah I have heard the ST hugger gives much better protection from the crap from the road to be honest I was looking at getting one for mine as like you get caught in one shower and it's squeaky bum time. With Hazzas help we have wrapped my electrics in massive amounts of electrical tape to keep the water out however I think a new rear hugger is going to be the way forward. Good pics on the cabling though my friend top work. The other option might be to cut a hole in the undertray under the rear seat feed the electrics up there then recover with a custom made blanking plate to feed any required wires back down whilst keeping the others out of harms way. I am toying with the idea of experimenting with this.

Nice write up dude and some very good points. Might have to look into one of those tail tidy's bvut i like my plate where it is.

However on that point i have had my TB M5 for over a year now plate cut down and mouted american style and P1 tip never in Except for MOT. have been pulled once (riding/speed related verbal warning only) and followed a few times and never been tugged for either. Why that is i don't know any maybe i've just been lucky but i don't want anyone to be put off by the risk of the fuzz tugging you.
Everyone i ride with always says how nice the bike sounds with the TB on.

Totally agree with you dude it is an amazing sound I managed to pull a sneaky one and got a friend to update my exhaust map and it runs even better with it now sounds beasty too. Taking the baffle out again tonight for the ride home the bacon can suck my fat one got my producer all stamped and signed off so that is off in the post today now have an 8x6 number plate with legal size font so they can't bitch and moan plus it has a stupid cherry reflector on it so now if they want to stop me it will have to be because of my riding so at least this way I know I am at fault

  8. Why I haven't thought of electrical tape? I feel like a right moron now :D

Just spoke to the guy at DB components ( Darren I think) and he is making one for me. He is cutting a groove into the rubber mounting to route the plate light cabling which should hide the wiring completely. Really nice bloke btw. He has an STR himself but is looking to expand his range into 675's as well. Thanks for the pics Iceman. Electrical tape is great invention! What's that grease stuff you mentioned?

  10. When I was taking the rear apart to put on the TBR can I noticed that all electric connectors are covered in some greasy stuff... I started googling it and apparently it's dielectric grease - it has no negative impact on any electrical connection but it protects from elements. You can get it from eBay, Amazon etc... I don't know how well it works but at least in theory it makes perfect sense... I guess time will tell ;)

It’s basically Silicone Grease. Great for assembling rubber components and it’s not electrically conductive.
:D I have some that’s supposedly “past it’s sell by date”???
It’s the correct stuff to use on rubber seals when re-assembling too.
So you can use it on electrical connections to protect them from corrosion and damp.
You can use a light smearing of it on your brake caliper seals and dust seals and piston sides when re-assembling brake calipers.
It even re-vitalises old rubber, like those grommet things that our fairings plug into, or sunroof rubbers etc..

Does anybody know where I can get a stainless link pipe for the two brothers M5 from? I've tried using metal polish to buff mine up but it's not staying that way and I want it to look bling so need a stainless steel pipe really to make it standard plus it will fit in with my project that I am currently starting work on.
