Cigarettes, I mean... over 2 years down from far too many a day to 3 or 4, went to work Tuesday and ran out, didn't have any money and decided 'right, that's it'. It's not easy, had my last one Tuesday morning, not had a smoke since, going through the 'I could kill somebody' stage, fuck it's hard. It's all I can do to not go up the shop and buy some but I'll stick it out as long as I can.

Buy lots of chewing gum. I went cold turkey 13 and a half years ago. Use lots of chewing gum. And the wanting to rip someones head off stage passes and then you will probably get cough. Once you are passed that though you will be fine :)

The wife's been on e-cig type thing for 14 months............I'm sure it's not good for her but she don't stink anymore.

I went cold turkey two and a half years ago - still want one occasionally................but I feel really smug when I don't need to go out for a cig, and even better when I realise I don't stink of fags.

I should say I've given up loads of times before - 8 years on one occasion, but went back.

I think I know that this is the one though because I still get cravings - never had those before.

    Stick with it

I really need to quit....pack a day for thirty years....funny thing is I was in hospital for a week about 10 years ago....wife came to pick me up when I was released and then stopped off at the pharmacy to pick up my meds....so I'm sitting there in her SUV, with the half-filled pack of smokes I left in there a week ago thinking "You don't need one, you've gone a week without and haven't even thought about, and if you smoke one now you'll be right back where you were"...so like a dumbass I lit one up....DOH!

I think part of it is my OCD.....I'll be down to my last smoke and I HAVE JUST GOT TO GO AND BUY ANOTHER PACK!!!!...then I get home and forget about them for hours!

Good luck with it....substance abuse counselors will tell you three weeks is the key time period....after that your body and more importantly your mind should have adjusted enough to cope with your new goal. Think of it like a vacation...you go to Greece or wherever for a fortnight and it's great, and you want to go back there next year....go for three weeks or a month and the place suddenly becomes boring...it's that kind of logic, only in reverse, if that makes any sense.

Go to google, look at the damage those cancer sticks do to your body, invest a whole evening in the exercise.

Then add up roughly how many boxes you have brought since you started smoking, and work out how much it has cost you financially so far.

Then truly resent your addiction to those carcinogenic poison puffers, and grief they may cause to you most loved ones.

IMHO that resentment may assist your resolve.

Well I past the fag shop again today and believe me it required top effort not to cave in, much as I would of liked to. If you never smoked then you won't have a clue, sorry to be so pathetic, I'm near screaming but I won't give in. Nope I'm through with the bloody things, ciggies have been good to me and helped me through some hard times and celebrated some good times to, but now it's time to wave goodbye.

Well done fella, we're routing for you.!!

No mate, YOU have been good to you, & got used to "rewarding yourself" with a fix of your chosen addiction. :ugeek: It's called positive reinforcement, and it just strengthens that bond without you realising it.
Now you need to think of another way to reward/comfort yourself.

'I' used frequently because it's a 'first person' post. What's difficult to understand?

If you smoke - you stink of fags............simple

Both my parents smoked from the age of 14, at 70 Dad got told that he could either have legs or fags..... The doc told Mum shed be pushing him around in wheelchair if she didnt pack up too and help him through it. They went cold turkey and just stopped. Mums amazed how much it stinks now, and moans about it all the time. She should have tried growing up in it....

Just over a week and no smoke. Good tip up tops of lots of gum, I keeping Airwaves in business! Coughing up some vile tasting shit, that's all the crap and payback time I suppose. I could so easily go and buy a pack of Marlboro Golds and I'd chain smoke the bloody lot, and then feel miserable, but I won't. No I used to do that and those days are gone and I got a few quid pocket money to. I WILL see this through.

I did say you would get 'the cough'. It will probably stick around for a good few weeks. The first week is the worst so well done :)

 Tomorrow is one frigid mistress mate.!!!

Or to put it less cryptically (for those of you who don't approve of my "cryptic"):

    ....Tomorrow never comes.!

"Soon" is just saying: "I admire the concept, when I grow up I want to be like him". ;)
