Track bike build

    As I recently got a car for the first time, I now have the ability to take the bike apart and leave it overnight without needing to put it all back together again to take it to work, so I thought I'd take the chance to clean off all the mud, grit and other crap that's built up over the months that I've owned it and turn it into a track bike so I can have some decent days on it without the fear of wrecking my daily transport.

    Bike is an 06, pretty much bog standard when I got it June last year fron iceman on here, although it had a scottoiler fitted which left a horrible mess in the battery tray area and I've been dying to clean it out. I don't have a massive budget so apart from the suspension I've not gone overboard with it, engine will be staying standard as I don't need the upgrades so it won't compete with an ex TTC bike or anything but maybe people could see how horrible these bikes get when ridden on the road over the winter!

    I was seriously dedicated to sorting myself a track only bike after I rode DeeGee's bike at Lydden Hill as I realised I could do alot more on decent suspension as the spring rates as standard are all wrong for me being 10 stone. I've tested the shock on the road and noticed it was alot smoother, the damping is miles better, I can't wait to get the fork kit in and see what that does for my confidence.

    So far, I have a few parts ready to fit that I bought bit by bit over the last few months, gotta love eBay!

    - KTech 20DDS cartridges
    - KTech 9.0KG springs (or is it .90)
    - Nitron 3-way shock
    - Arrow pipe (slip on only)
    - Black fuel tank
    - Carbon tank protectors
    - Woodcraft clip ons
    - Aftermarket damper
    - Lockstop
    - Carbon mudguard
    - Carbon sharkfin
    - Renthal sprockets -1/+2

    I'm aiming for a black & white colour scheme with white wheels, never done rattle can spraying before so that'll be a challenge.

    If anyone has built a 675 up then I'd appreciate any tips, things to remove and how etc, I've just bought a rear seat fairing with the foam and not sure how to secure the front to the bike and how to secure the front brake res as the clipons lose the bracket etc I've had a few discussions on here already but have yet to try any of them out properly so will report back with my progress (or lack of if I mess it up)

    I'll add more pics as I get round to cleaning more of the bike and when I start to put it back together again.


    How it stands...I love how bikes look like this but I won't be going much further, apart from getting the forks/shock out (and headers if anyone's got a silly cheap full Arrow ;) )

    Cheers quite happy with it, just a shame there's a load more grit a bit further in where I can't really get to but at least it's not visable with the fairings on.

    Tell me about it...there have been a few occasions where I literally clean every link of the chain. :lol:

    I've had enough of cleaning red 675s :lol: I just want it to be spring so I can rideeee! Put my Arrow back on the other day and it sounds incredible, I'd forgotten how good it sounds.

    And yeah I will need some tips, as in, dumbass guide. I've read a few but the guys writing them assume you know what they're on about... :oops:

    Looking good there mate. Don't get me started cleaning chain links. Been there done that.

    Take your time doing fair ings. I'd advise doing all the prep work and primer yourself then get a pro to do top coats if you want a good job. Works out cheaper in the end rather than buying loads of wizz cans. Unless you've got access to a compressor and spray gun

    Yeah I rode it like that...I used to wipe it down every other day or so but got so sick of doing it during the crappy weather so I just left it. Calipers are a bit stained now but pistons are fully functional.

    And the father in law has a spray gun I believe, he does car panels so I have thought about asking him but not sure how much it'd cost but it's worth asking.

    Passed my test a few months back now having a car I too have found the luxury of being able to do things to my bike over a long period of time without the need of use very handy!!!

    Looks clean! Spent about 3 weeks cleaning mine similar to how you've done yours, also is a tornado red with gb nose cone :p

    It's so much easier isn't it?! Usually there's the mad rush when I realise I've got a few hours before I go to bed and go back to work and I usually end up forgetting something, like plugging the headlight back in which is a big deal when I work nights haha.

    And I just used wd40 and a ripped up t shirt for all of it. Was thinking of getting some more of the muc off stuff as its better at removing crud and also acf50 to protect it in the future.

    I use my bikes too much to do that sort of deep clean... but it certainly looks factory again! :)

    Yeah it'll be the first time I've ever done it as I've always had to rely on my bike so it'll be interesting to see how clean I can get it.

    I'm going to try remove the flapper and canister and get my forks out ready to have the cartridges fitted. May have to wait till payday though

    Dave I do have a quick question regarding the lock stop, do you unbolt the lock stop or remove the intake and slide it on?

    Mitch, the lock stop uses the bolts for the intake trumpet, you'll need to partially dissemble the race lock stop, drop it over the intake and then bolt it all into place. You'll need the dash and front fairing support out of the way to give you some working room.
    The bolts for the intake trumpet to headstock are loctited in and will be a nightmare to get out if they're anything like mine, that's the only difficult part of the whole job, the thing is to get every bolt started on that race lock assy before you tighten a single one, it will pull out of shape if you don't.

    Cool the so for the input, should get round to that bit about Friday Saturday I think. Will see how I get in with these loctited bolts...
