Please remove, hurting my eyes.... Next it'll be front flip helmets and grey beards...

No doubt it is practical, but you wouldn't dream of putting a roof rack on a Ferrari do you?

    i don't get it? :?
If a Ferrari had the luggage space of a Daytona I absolutely would put a roof rack on it for a weeks touring of the Alps, instead of taking, say, a Mondeo.

I have seen a Porsche with roof rails, carrying wood and a canoe, why not?!

:? Hell Stu, are you ok mate.??

Judging by that stripe you've painted you will have hit the ditch at a fair old lick.!

To top it all, I'm guessing that the rear tyre may have a "track unfriendly" flat section now.?

On a more positive note, how are you finding the European tracks.?

Scary experience Stu. Hope you're ok, that looked a fair old skid, but the bike looked ok in the pics, so couldn't have been too traumatic.

I can't say I like the look of the top box at all, but given your scare I understand why you've done it. I feel I may know the answer to this, but why go for a top box when panniers would have given you a far lower CoG?

Fair enough on the crash caused by the tail pack... Did look nasty so is understandable and at least they're not panniers...! My mate has them on his multistrada and kills any attempt at filtering in traffic.

I had a backpack open on me a couple of years ago and a soft shell top came out/went round the wheel... Luckily I was doing low speed at the time. Since then I use a different bag and I also "double bungee" my us-20 "just incase"...

Driving quick and turning sharply with roof loads (think sail) isn't really a good idea, plus the racks scratch the paint on your Porsche... No issue if you're loaded and can replace/respray often - and can stomach the 20mpg or less to haul your kayak to the alps... Mind you, if you go to Africa or SE Asia, you'd see people moving house/with mobile shops on the back if their 125cc mopeds...

    yeah flat spot

And you may just see it here too

Tbh I really didn't notice it either on track or road.

Damage to bike was that left mirror I was seeking. It broke off and damaged a bit of the fairing. We couldn't find it anywhere :?
And the tail fairing was a bit damaged , only a bit, but all 3 panels :( :$:
At least Horney is sorting me all out  mirror already replaced :)
I was so lucky, the back end came right round on me and ended up backwards in a grass ditch on its beautiful Arrow full system can.. But hardly a mark on it. :D

Repair cost about what a set of race fairings would have cost, although this happened on the road.

In hindsight I think it would have been best to give it full front brakes and stop as quick as I could while unloading weight on the rear. As it was I had no idea what was happening, you get no significant retardation from a skidding back wheel and I was just trying to keep it stable and upright.

Thread resurrection extraordinaire! I've never seen this before...but I have to admit I quite like it as a means of making the bike more useful. I hope @gary1966 will post a picture of the finished article. I might have a rummage back in time myself and see what else folk got up to back in the day...

    Good on you!
fwiw I have now changed away from a top box. It was great on the 2009 when the base plate was bolted directly to the subframe, but on the 2013 bolted to the pillion seat was a bit wobbly, so now I have Kriega US-30.
But hope it goes well on the Speed Trip.

Yes that's my worry it might wobble?? I will give it a go at the end of the day I paid bugger all for seat and box so worth a go, if it's a fail I will go for the us-30.
