Is an amazing thing... few clicks and turns here and it transforms you're bike... Anyone here do there own set up and in click and turn form what works for you
Haven't yet but I will have a tinker one day. Is it just a case of turning and trying til you get it right or is there a formula dependant on height/weight etc? :?
There will be a formula/more specific theory somewhere Mine has been a wee bit of trial and error and today seemed lovely

I adjusted my STR to the book, made a big difference but was still not 100%v happy, so took it somewhere for £40-00 changed it around some more, adjusted the rear spring, and again it is just soo much better on all types of roads. Been out today for a good blat around, coldish, but roads not too bad

I set mine up myself. Did some reading last year and made a big difference in how I think when I ride in terms of what it's doing and what I could do to improve it. Got so obsessed I bought the Nitron race shock and K-Tech 20SSRK fork kit for track use so at least the only thing that could hold me back would be myself!
I'm trying to do mine atm but struggling tbh. I only weigh 140 lbs (10 stone) without kit so I think that the springs are probably too stiff for my weight. Has anyone here had the shock spring changed? If so, what's the cost of doing so? Also, is rebound and compression damping dependant on rider weight or is it down to riding style and road conditions?
The rear spring for sure does need adjusting for your weight, rebound and compression is effected by rider weight also
Yeah the damping is also affected. The springs will compress quicker and rebound slower with more weight. And unless you ride in your pants, then weight without kit is useless. I'm 10 stone 2 in undies, 11 stone 5 with FULL gear. That is a massive difference and bearing in mind that we are measuring in mms, then it will make a noticeable difference. Put all of your gear on exactly as if you were riding and get someone to help you check your sag figures. I bet you can get the right number (28-33, track or road?) on the rear because I could. It was the front I had issues with and actually needed a spring change.
Cna your rear spring is almost certainly wrong for your weight unless you regularly take a pillion, the std spring is a compromise for all riders and 2 up as well. The damping will depend on the spring rate and the weight of rider for compression, spring rate only for rebound.
Okie dokie. Where can I get a lower rate spring from? I've had a look but haven't been able to find anything.
You have it adjusted, there is a screw that can be adjusted to loosen, or tighten, just need the right tools, but tbh you need someone who knows what they are doing to set up the rest of the suspension after the Rear spring has been adjusted
Tbh adjusting your spring (preload) will change the sag on your bike but not the spring rate - that's set at the springs manufacture. If you really want the bike to work for you and be pliant on the roads, have a look for your local suspension specialist - ask around and make sure they know what they're doing and get the springs changed and the damping set up for your weight (+gear) and riding style. It should cost between £200-£400 for a f&r spring change and damping set up to suit. Have a look at some of the many suspension threads on here to see what can be done, how it rides afterwards and how much it costs.
Out of interest, have you checked sag figures and looked at where abouts the lock collar is too see how much of the total length you're using to achieve it or are you just guessing?
This is something I need to look at getting done with my bike. Since getting it Ive not had chance for a blast on the bendys but there seems to be a bit of sag when I get on the bike. Is there anywhere around Nottingham that is any good/recommended for a bit of setup?
Guys do a search for suspension settings thread and suspension the guide lots of info. Also for the road I recommend the 10% rule screw all the rest.
