Brands is my local track so I’ve been a few times, but I’m really struggling with gearing. Last couple of times I was there I ran 15/46 and was lapping 52/53secs but I found I was red lining just before Druids and Surtees but not really enough time to change gear but still enough time to loose drive. Any recommendations?!
I run 15-45 Up to 5th down the straight, back to 3rd for paddock, up to 4th before Druids, 2nd for Druids, hold 2nd down graham hill, 3rd coming on to the small straight 4th before surtees and power through, back to 3rd before clearways and hold 3rd round on to the straight
Ok, I didn’t know if to go up or down. Your way adds more gear changes, I’d be in 3rd up to Druids and 3rd into Surtees and round to the straight. What sort of times do you achieve ?
49.99 is my fastest lap I can run sub 51's pretty comfortably though It's up to whatever suits you, there is some parts of tracks where less gear changes means you a smoother and faster but others where you are better to use he gears You could go longer so you aren't buzzing the limiter, try 45 or if you don't think you are fast enough to use 4th where I do then go shorter to a 47 until you get your speed up
In all honesty though I know really quick lads that dip into 48's round there, run as many gears as they can and others as few as possible As long as your are gearing is right and you have that engine singing then in sure the times will come
We had no data for the Friday testing with Thunder sport so we started on 15/45 then went to 15/44 after a couple of sessions . but Mike found that not very good . So we went to 15/46 for the qualifying and both races on the Saturday but then changed to 15/45 for the sunday so next time we go to Brands we will run 15/45 .
I did a trackday there last Wednesday and tried 15/45, I think I preferred it to 15/46. Not sure how Bigmac uses 4th up to Druids and surtees though... what gears was Mike using?
mike goes up to druids in 4th then back 2 gears to Graham hill , into Surtees in 4th back to 3rd for clearways .start and finish into 5th back 2 for paddock hill
