Hi guys, it's been a while.

I've had a couple of seasons off riding so basically I want to start her up and use her again. 2006 675 24k miles, lots of oil changes and well cared for.

The last time I started her was during this looooong storage and it felt momentarily like a stuck start, but then she fired up fine and sounded sweet. This time (could be 2 years, uff, it may have been longer) I'd rather do some preparation work beforehand. Got the basics covered: fresh oil, fresh fuel, fresh coolant, fresh filters etc.

My plan is to remove the plugs and rotate the engine (praying it moves ok!!) using the back wheel and 4th or 5th gear.

Should I drop anything into the cylinders to lube them up?? Bit of engine oil?? Let that soak for a day??

Been stored dry warm indoors in the downstairs study.......wife can't complain as that's where her drum kit lives . Love the narrow 675 for this exact reason - easy through the front door and down the hall!

Any advice or anyone's experience with this sort of recommisioning would be appreciated.

  2. You'll probably just be fine restarting with fresh fuel and a new battery unless your current one is in tip top condition, 2 years should be no problem for the engine, especially stored in a warm dry environment, closed up with fresh oil.
Obviously then do the service items if you haven't already done so.
If you want to turn it over first as a precaution and to build up oil pressure I would just remove the starter relay, link it out with the ignition off, and turn it over for a few seconds, have done this on mine after the valve clearance adjustment service.

  3. In the manual it say prolong storage you should put 5ml of engine oil in each cyclinder head. I think it’s 5ml. Someone might have it to have. Dunno if you wanna/should do that prior to start.

  4. I think that's prior to storage though, not before you restart.

  5. Agreed, just my train of thought reckons that it’ll be there for first turn over to line the cylinders. So doing it just before might not have the benefits of stopping corrosion but will lube areas. I’m no mechanic just offering my thoughts.
