    I suppose there's the rub.

Would a good pair of used forks cost half that?

Then again cast alloy yokes would break rather than twist if damaged

Oh, another good thing....its not a cat D, Can't honestly see if the frame's twisted either as everything fits right

I know I've already mentally bought the bike but its steering geometry puzzles me. Nothing bent or broken and yet the front wheel doesn't sit square when the bars are straight....

Bars, yokes, forks, front wheel spindle.

Let's see how it rides eh?

£900 id buy the other one. Has a car or something driven into the front wheel side on. Surely the seller knows what the bike is the way it is?

There's always more waiting around the corner that are sound bikes. I missed what I thought was my bike only for a better one for similar money to come up less than a week later.

If it's not right I'd ignore it.

  4. Just because she looks like a supermodel, it doesn't mean that there's not a psycho bunny boiler waiting to show herself as soon as she's in your garage.

When I sold my 07 Daytona, she looked absolutely immaculate and although she'd been dropped a couple of times (at 0mph - it's the midget leg thing), she'd had all damaged panels replaced with new, genuine parts. However, what you couldn't see was that the backlash gear had decided that it'd had enough of this life and had fubard the internals.

(yes, the dealership was well aware of her little issues when I px'd her for f-all).

I'd pay the bit extra for peace of mind alone, or sit around and wait a bit longer for something else to turn up. But that's me and I'm almost allergic to doing my own spannering.

    What's the backlash gear?

  6. I could give you a vague definition with lots of umms and errs, but I'm hoping that someone else will save me here and give a precise and accurate definition.

I can show you what a broken one does to an engine though:

Ow, is that a regular 675 problem,

  8. I spent a bit of time talking to Tony @ T3 about it and, according to him, it's not an uncommon problem with the first Daytonas.

  9. It's a thin gear that is sprung loaded to keep the balancer shaft gear loaded against the crankshaft gear (to remove the 'backlash').

Helps keep the noise of the gears down.

They do seem to have a tendency to break up and lunch the engine.

I've removed mine as seen a few trackbike/race engines destroyed because of them, only did mine though as I was rebuilding the engine anyway.

Oh well maybe I'm a bit safer with a 2012?

  11. Hey just given you a slight heads up as i just saw this same bike on gumtree, looks like its been down on the left side. Look at the brake disks the right side looks stock and the left side has a wavey disk on it. Also the engine casing on the left side is black so seems its been damaged and replaced with a later year casing. Just a few heads up just in case you didnt know/spotted them!

  15. As an ex Exup Ru owner myself (but being around 5'7") I will admit that the Daytona 675 is an amazing bit of kit but don't rule out the Street Triple R as they are an absolute hooligan machine (just swapped my STR for the Daytona so I know both bikes) and I do have a mint 99 (98 MY) R1 for sale for £2750 should the urge take you. :)
The RU was a very long and low bike for a 6'2" guy anyway. Even at 5'7" I was flat footed and bent at the knees!

    .....and my old faithful RU

    Well

So here we have it. Not ridden it yet as it was snowing when we set off & I've not bought it to get cold on.....

Just need an appropriate handle. So far I've considered 'widowmaker'

Alternative suggestions may be considered then ignored out of hand....... :D :D

  19. Congratulations on getting yourself such a lovely new bike. It's just a shame about your bloody awful choice of names for her, especially as you haven't even ridden her yet. It's the kind of name used by lumberjacks with mullets. Ermmmm, you're not a tree surgeon by any chance, are you?

  20. Can i ask, is the front tyre not on the wrong way? The water grooves look like they will funnel the water to the centre of the tyre not out, should it be like that? I ask because the rear appears to be the other way.
