Welcome to my build and track time thread: Today SD (steffydog) Racing was born, #55 because SS are my initials, simples. I've decided to give a track bike a go, so I have a budget, yeah right I hear the racers scream! As i'd rather not throw my new RX down the road, and then not be able to get home, and I'm sure I can be quicker if I can remove the what if factor? So I've decided to buy a road bike, and tweak where needed, depending on my performance and budget. I'll need to sell my MX5, and buy a car, tow bar and a trailer etc, so it'll all be here, as it'll give people an idea of costs. I hope you enjoy my posts. So today I bought a 2008 Daytona 675, a few more previous owners than I'd have liked, but after a good wash I'm sure it'll come up looking on, and it's a track bike right!? 15k miles Scorched Yellow. . . . . Borrowed a van from work to get her home, and after a near 450 mile round trip, she's home, had a quick wash over, and removal of some stickers, she's now safely tucked away in the garage until I have time to make a start on her. Started like this: Few hours and a load of wet wipes later: Month 1: Spend during August, prices delivered, some I just cant say, or were part of a deal or px whatever, but a big thank you to all those to whom I've bought from so far: Bike £3200 Arrow exhaust & baffle £250 Castrol Fully Synth 8Litres Oil £67 Castrol Fully Synth 9Litres Oil £54 (saw a better deal) K&N 2x Oil filters £16 OE Air filter £30 NGK Iridium Spark plugs £21 20L Gerry can & spout £20 Draper 5Litre pourer £11 R&G Shark fin £31 R&G Rear cotton reels £20 R&G Front fork protectors £20 GB Racing Engine covers £132 GB Racing Engine frame sliders £100 EvoTech rad guard £40 AFAM 520 Chain and sprocket kit £135 AFAM Chain tool £12 OE Petrol tank and pump £150 Constands Headstock & paddock stands £85 TRW Rearsets £200 Motul RBF660 Brake fluid and line £10 Triumph spares, bolts, screws etc £35 Renthal Grips £8 OE Gear actuator £12 ProFibre Race fairings, seat, foam £375 Screws, washers and seat foam £20 Halfords ready mix coolant £20 Sep-Jan 16 Ohlins rear shock £350 Ohlins service £230 Spare hoses £20 49T rear sprocket £20 Decals £35
Good luck with the build and track days mate. One day I will get round to doing something similar so will be watching your progress with interest.
Looking good mate I have a single bike trailer that's all it needs is a hub as the bearing is shot ur welcome to it mate but u will have to put it in a van until fixed
Cheers wobbley, I've nowhere really to keep a built trailer, so I'm looking at one that folds down. Thanks for the ramp load, worked a treat!
Going to sell the seat cowl to recoup the van cost? I know it looks amazing, but it's going to be a track bike.
Probably Stu, I'm guessing the van cost, will speak to a manager on Monday, probably be happy if I stick £50 of fuel in
Glad you have decided to give the track a good go Steve, least you won't be short of help and pointers on here with anything you need to know
Lovely colour that! 55 is a lovely tribute (to me anyway) to Darren Lindsey, an old team mate of Guy Martin's.
Cool locked in on this thread. Also if you put your MX5 up on here, my bro is in the market for an older one.
good 250 rider was darren lindsey and was actualy starting to get to grips with the big bikes aswell all road racers have my respect i love motorsport as a whole but proper road racing is a thing that has to be seen to believe
Looks great, needs some nice levers to go on it... With regards to the trailer, have a look at motolug. I have one which stands up in the garage once the wheels come off it. Very easy to use and store and you can load a bike on it on your own too. Not cheap though. Good price you got it for, too, around the same as I got part ex. Seems to be about market price for the older bikes these days. Enjoy the build, many looking forward to seeing the on track pics!
Always liked the scorched yellow Daytona's. I have an erde single trailer, its only a few bolts and it spilts in half and stands on its end, I'll get a picture later of it tucked up in the garage.
Well done mate I see she already has some nice bits as already mentions. But what bits have u been buying
Bits will be added to thread this week, as I've got to work today Pics of Erde would be good, as I've only seen the Motolug broken down :
