Just a short video on how to replace your rear pads and brake fluid on your gen 1 street triple with Nissin caliper, be same for facelift models with same caliper, however the Brembo has a slightly different pin assembly that knocks in and out, could make a video for that too at a later date (as I own a Daytona gen 3 non 'R' with Brembo rear brake). Cheers, Dan
Great instructional video Dan, should give confidence to anyone who hasn't tackled this sort of task before. Fwiw, when replacing disc pads I personally like to take the opportunity to clean the pistons before installing the new ones. The pistons protrude ever further as the friction material wears away, and by the time the pads are at the end of their life a fair proportion of the piston sidewall is exposed. This surface is inevitably exposed to damp and detritus (due to the caliper's location). So, imho it is always worthwhile ensuring that the exposed piston sides are thoroughly cleaned before I retract them back into the caliper. Obviously with a lovely clean track bike like yours, this is less of a concern. However (for example) on a regularly used road bike/commuter hack, the soiled piston sides can lead to the piston not moving as freely as it should.
Thanks StMarks, that was the aim, just to give a little guidance. You are 100% right though, I definitely should have given the piston a clean, I was being lazy not fully taking the caliper off as the piston went back easy and the sliders were free, previous owner seems to have kept it in fairly good nick. I do make sure to give the front pistons a good toothbrush on the track bike though, as I know that is getting worked hard! This Street is just my road bike for now and the Daytona is my dedicated track bike. Thanks for replying
