Bit of a frivolous one here but on my lone rides I sometimes like to listen to a bit of music on my iPod to get me in the mood. Problem is, control. How to change tracks and more importantly change the volume or mute it altogether? I had a device I got some years ago with a key-fob for doing just that. I thought if I could mount it somewhere near the handlebars my problems would be solved. I had a good look around for a suitable point but was finding it difficult with my lack of machine tooling (i really need a lathe and a Bridgeport milling machine). I eventually found a candidate in the hole at the end of the clip-ons. I got out my digital verniers, measured it and found it to be 12mm. This immediately gave me options as I have a wide range of expansion bolts in my shed with 12mm being a popular size. After a root around in my shed I got what I needed. I then had to figure out a way to fix the device to the expansion bolt. I had a few camera mounts hanging around so had a look at those. I came up with the idea of tapping out the camera mount to accommodate the M8 thread of the expansion bolt. So, I got on with it, a bit of hacksawing, drilling tapping and painting later, it was time to fit. Fairly happy with the results, shame I don't have a 675R as the colours and font seem to match Not fully tested when riding yet due to the crappy weather ATM.
