Heading out of Preston today on a busy two lane dual carriageway towards lytham St annes/Blackpool, obviously quite a busy road in the middle of summer, but what do I find today, one lane completely coned off for miles and signs saying covid-19 pop-up cycle lane, WTF is that all about:mad:

The road already has a marked cycle lane on the inside and with it being a two-lane dual carriageway there's plenty of room for everybody to pass by, there was obviously no cyclists to be seen just thousands of other motorists being held up, crammed into one lane behind the slowest vehicle.:wall:

It's another "Boris Bandwagon", with the intention of appealing to popular fads.
As usual any attention more than just hearing their sound bites clearly illustrates the sheer incompetence & lack of integrity of our political leadership imho.

Not exclusively a “Boris fad” - the Socialist Paradise of Wales leaders (we’re run by the Marxists here) have done the same thing in Cardiff (not copying Boris though) - but being geniuses, this has blocked off the middle of the city entirely for bicycles and al fresco eating (in Wet Wales, not the dry SE).

This means it’s now either a 2mi or 1mi/15min detour for cars or trucks going, say from the University to Riverside/Canton side of the city. In heavier traffic too, as there are now less routes around Bute Park/City centre, causing more pollution from larger traffic jams...

I cycle a fair bit, including with the kids and still think it’s nuts blocking one of three (indirect) cross city routes off to traffic and then complaining people aren’t supporting their city after lockdown by spending in the city, but then most things in the world seem to be just a little bit bonkers/doublespeak lately...

Not saying it was his idea mate, very little chance of that. 8-)) However he does like his bicycle profile boosters. ( Fyi the "Boris bikes" were actually a legacy introduction from his predecessor, your comrade Ken Livingstone ;)) )
