All going back together now! Chain and sprockets changed. Front had been done up to about 500 nm by a clown! Back on its wheels and new spacers made putting the wheels back in so much easier . Front calipers to tidy up tomorrow then new pads to go in. Couple of jobs left but well on the way I'd say. Happy days

That's a great observation @wobblybiker99 . It's actually not tight but I've set it like that by hand as I checked the flaring but thanks for taking the time to say. Things like that are easy missed. I've checked again and it moves freely

A couple of free hours today cleaning brakes and changing pads. Some of the pistons were a bit sticky but some graft and plenty brake cleaner fixed the job . Exhaust ports cleaned out and old gaskets removed. A bit of a chew on but getting there now

An eBay bargain arrived today! Thought having coloured side pods might finish it off beautifully. Patience seems to be the key to finding all the bits. LOL. Hopefully this coming week I'll have it up and running again... with just some tidying up to do. The best laid plans etc.... PXL_20240330_151939968.jpg

Putting all the bits back on is so much easier, and quite fun because of that imho.
Great work SW73, won't be long now till the pic's of the finished article, hopefully.

Thanks @StMarks . I've never even sat on the bike up to this point...but hopefully all goes smoothly. Once I've ridden it a bit I want to strip and clean the forks and fill with new oil. Never done that before so if anyone has an idiots guide for the r forks or some tips around tools etc I'd be grateful

A little more achieved today. Exhaust system fitted up. Needs tweaking for alignment but gaskets in, clamps done up, headers tightened down and nipped up with new nuts. Still wondering about new exhaust studs but I think on balance, as they're serviceable, I've made the right decision for now. New rad from @Colin Smith in...but not plumbed up yet as next on the list is to refurbish the radiator fan bracket. Hopefully fix that today. Some time pencilled in Thursday to hopefully have the cooling system finished and bodywork starting to go back on It's been a long haul. LoL. As always with old bikes , more to do than you think Front brakes all done.... just new fluid needed PXL_20240402_111946999.jpg PXL_20240402_111600917.jpg PXL_20240402_111520620.jpg PXL_20240402_111533305.jpg PXL_20240402_111527250.jpg PXL_20240402_113804616.jpg PXL_20240402_113534958.jpg PXL_20240402_113849263.jpg PXL_20240402_111549072.jpg

I'll maybe not win painter of the year but a couple of coats of etch primer and a couple out of a satin black rattle can have tidied it up. Looking forward to putting it all back together . Thursday. Definitely finishing it Thursday PXL_20240402_203129562.jpg

Just realised, looking at the pics...I forgot to plug the radiator fan in . FFS. Another job for next week. It'll need a few things loosening and the tank lifting to get at the connectors. Hey ho. Apart from that....

Mulling over getting this finished now. New battery activated and on charge ready to go in. Optimate lead ordered to fit. Along with a new master link for the chain.. @wobblybiker99 thought it looked a bit tight and on going back to it I think I can now feel more resistance than in the other links. It may be just my imagination but for £6 to do it again.... peace of mind for very little. It'd be a shame to rick ruining the chain and sprockets Lol. All good to go I'd say next week. Booked an MOT just to be positive

Fwiw my thoughts on seeing that chain were the same as Wobbles'. It is difficult to go by a picture, or even simply by feel. Imho the best approach would be to measure the plates with a vernier first, and only remove the new link if it is indeed set too narrow.

Yep, vernier is the way to go. Discovered this after fitting countless tight links!

I think it's ok but as suggested I should have measured not eyeballed it. It'll only prey on my mind...so new link ordered. Better plan going forward. Thanks fellas
