Thank you all for such a warm welcome. It's great to be here.

    I'm based in north Kent.

It was busy last weekend as I picked her up from Swindon and rode home on Saturday then had to put in another few miles on Sunday with the "lads" (maybe that should read fogies?).

The new prized possession is blue.

Thanks again and hope to see some of you out and about.

  6. Welcome to the forum matey.... Sorry I must have missed your intro somehow!!

I'm in West Malling (KENT), always rideouts being organised on here from the Oakdene Cafe if your ever free, few of us normally meet up down there too on a Wednesday eve for bike night. If your ever passing, pop in and say hi.

It's a Triumph TRW engine and gearbox (500cc side valve twin) ex MOD bought at auction in the 60's. Bunged in a Triumph sprung hub frame. All in trials trim. The 1949ish is an absolute guess tbh it could be later. If I ever get round to it I'll see if someone can date the engine and frame numbers.

I built it with my late Dad in 1967/68 from various bits we had laying around. We used to call 'bikes like that bitsa's as they were often a collection of bits of this and bits of that.

Sort of dates me I guess.

Cheers StM. All good so far. Taken the day off out to lunch with Mrs P then try and see why the Engine Management Light came on last night.

When I used it, Tune ECU told me exactly what the fault was and allowed me to clear it.

Incidently, my money is on your EXUP valve sticking.

Another demonstration of StM's prescience. T'was the Ex up indeed. Strangely the fault cleared after I'd run the diagnostics and then disconnected. I know I didn't reset it so no idea what's going on. Bad news is that I seem to have a oil leak - weep of oil from somewhere on the clutch side of the engine. Oil level seems OK and don't think its spillage from the oil change at 500 miles, got nearly 2800 on it now so I'm sure I would have noticed it before on general check rounds and cleaning. Think its a trip back to the dealer on the cards. bike came from Performance Triumph in Swindon but don't need the 200 mile round trip and don't fancy Laguna - anyone any experience of the Romford dealers - City Triumph I think?

Cheers Red its been a more than decent day, especially if I forget the number attached to it

May I suggest you take a little time to check that all the bolts are still tightened on your casings Polpalm.
There have been a number of instances where certain of the bolts seem to have been found to be insufficiently tight, allowing the gasket to weep a little.

Apparently the EXUP valve will often release itself after it's stuck, however I believe that the fault remains activated until you clear it (as you have done).

Thanks again StM. I'll take a look to see if any of the bolts need nipping up. I've got the torque values courtesy of Charlie so just need to covert them to ft/lb for my old gear! Bloody world has gone downhill since it moved away from Whitworth and AF. :D :D

Hi Polpalm, North City Triumph have a good reputation, I know Steffy and a few others have recommended them to me as I'm short on a good dealer up my way.

Btw, agree about unc/unf threads but whitworth and bsf should have been killed at proposal level  . Fwiw metric is supposed to be a self locking thread.
StM is right about the casing bolts though, lots of peeps on here have had problems in that dept, quick nip up of the bolts is all that's req'd.

Cheers Deegee. I think they'll be the port of call if required.

Metric and self locking in the same sentance make me chuckle too. It's locknuts and tab washers were made for.

Is it OCD when all the whit spanners are colour coded green, the AF red and metric blue?
