Hi folks. I recently picked up a D675 track day bike, that the previous owner suspected it had blown a head gasket as the oil and coolant had mixed and blew out the coolant overflow oiling a track On a rainy track day. I picked it up for a project after reading that there was a possibility that it was the oil cooler here, and knowing that there was an engine for sale currently not far from me if it was worse. So far I’ve diagnosed that it’s a failed cooler, I’ve blown it out, capped the coolant in and out on it as well as capped off the coolant lines and remounted it so I could begin flushing out the coolant, and oil. ‘So far I’ve turned it over, and then got it running. It’s not smoking, and doesn’t sound bad I’m on the 3rd round of flushing coolant and oil, and it’s starting to look pretty good. I’ve got the UKRS oil cooler and Samco hoses on the way!
Welcome to the forum Glad its only the oil cooler and nothing worse, hopefully everything will be back to normal once the flushing is completed. post some pics when you get chance.
Cheers. I pulled the radiator off tonight and rotated what would fit in my ultrasonic cleaner seems to have worked well at getting the oil sludgey film out. Will have to take some in progress photos soon. It’s an old battle axe of a track bike so not going to win any beauty contests.

thanks, so far I’ve installed the new UKRS cooler and samco hose kit, and cleaned up the K&N air filter and tidied up some mess from the coolant overflow. The bike seems to be running ok in the shop. It’s not blowing any smoke, and it sounds pretty good revving with no load. I hope to rig up a tail light and tape a led light in the socket of the headlight to go for a test ride soon. I have a track day booked for august I might bring this and my current zx6r down to the track if it all seems well!
Bike stalls easily when started. Will eventually idle when warmed up. It’s like the idle is too low. Is there a manual idle adjust on these? Or just a sign of needing more tune up?
Mine doesn’t run very sweet when cold but it isn’t a very standard block.Could be handy to get the ecu set up for that filter.Also if the SAI is removed it can help getting a more accurate setup on the ecu. You could also get an aftermarket manual adjuster to help it idle better to warm it up. I’ve been meaning to get one myself and have seen them for sale at UKRS for not that much money.
Thanks again, I hit a roadblock trying to fix the idle, I bumped the tank while I had it hooked up and broke the fuel pump outlet. Had to get a new pump. Used an Aliexpress options for the Yamahas it fits and functions like stock. I actually threaded a nut onto the stop of the idle stop to get the idle up where it should. My dad had a usb dongle setup for his 765 street triple, is this the same setup needed for dialing in the 675r? Got a test ride in. Seem to run well up to around 11k then seems to hesitate. Will do plugs, and clean injectors next.
Welcome, there is a small vacuum hose that goes to a sensor that bolts to the back of the airbox or at least there is on my 06, very easy to forget to connect this. Also worth checking the condition of this pipe incase it has a split in it
