Hello every one my name is Stuart and I am new to the forum. I have just put the deposit down on my for my new bike and was wondering what if any accessories I should purchase? Also as I am getting back into biking again after more than a few years I was wondering what kit you would recomend? Thanks
Hi Stuart Welcome to the site, they're a good bunch on here. My personal recommendation with kit is to always buy the best you can afford. Someone once said to me that you don't dress for motorcycling, you dress for an accident. I'd possibly also recommend a refresher course, I did one last year which was run by the local police and that was free, in my area an organisation also does full day courses for about £30 - 40. The I.A.M. does a course for £129 which includes 6 run outs with an instructor and then a final assessment. Be safe
I have already contacted I think it is bike smart about a course as I need a refresher but they havent replied as yet. I will try and get some decent leathers and helmet as my shark one is 13 years old and just sat on a shelf. I was looking at a Marushin - RS1 Carbon online but i dont know if they are any good quiet and will fit my head yet.
Hello m8, and welcome... get some pics of yer bike as soon as you get it. Accessories... the list is endless Stuart... appearance or performance? have a good nose around the forum, including the galleries... and if anything catches your interest, ask questions about it, we don't bite and there are some knowledgeable guys (& gals) on here.
Hello Stu, welcome!! Get the best set of leathers, boots, gloves and helmets that you can afford. Some people prefer textiles - well each to their own. I have a Spyke 2-piece, more flexible than a 1 piece. Do get proper boots, they help stop crush injuries. i have Sidi Vertigos. And my lid is a Shoei XR1000, the pattern is not to everyone's taste but it was a discontinued range and half price at the bike show. You are so going to love your new toy It's insanely fast And, the brakes are damn good - suggest you practise braking as the mahoosive discs on the front are so powerful and will stop you very quickly. Extra bits for the bike? I don't have that many on mine, just what it says in my sig. Suggest you get the bike first and see what you think, but I would suggest some GSGs or T3s. But it's pretty good straight out the box
I tried on a Shoei xr1100 in the shop hich fitted nicely but they did have a few 1000's on sale so I will take a look there. Stupid question or two is the tor can the arrow one you can get through triumph and are t3's crash bungs?
My XR1000 is brilliant. I haven't road tested it so to speak but it has vents so it's cool in summer and also it's very quiet. The TOR - nope, it's a triumph one. I have one on my bike. Nice raspy noise esp at 6K+ but not too in yer face. Others will be able to opinionate on Arrow. T3s - yes, bungs. They're a bit of a bugger to fit, the left one is fiddly as you need three hands... but worth it I think - again not road tested
Welcome on board - most of it has been said already, take a good look around for idea's and wot not, trouble is now I have so many ideas of what I want to do to the bike it is now going to be issue of finding ways to pay for it. Saying that my baby is pretty standard since new, only thing I had fitted at the start was the T3 bungs and an alarm. After being on here I have a list as long as your arm of stuff I want to do now You are really going to enjoy yourself, only advice that I can give is do your own thing, get to know your bike and your abilities on it, ride how you want not other people's
Well so far I will be buying the alarm, a double bubble screen, crash bungs and a tank pad for the bike then I will need a 2 peice some gd boots helmet and then gloves. I tried to get the dealership to through some stuff in but I am getting a good deal on the bike which is a 2009 model which is being registered on the 1st. This will be my 1st new anything motorised
Thanks for all of your help so far everyone has anyone seen the bike build on triumph 675.net the one where they have bought all of the race parts?
Welcome Stu. I have just got my bike, picked it up on Friday, so not had a chance to ride it yet! The TOR can is Triumph Off Road, not road legal, but plenty use them, The Arrow is road legal with the baffle left in, but illegal with it removed i believe, which is how most use it! The standard can doesn't sound that bad either! I think the first mod i'm looking to do is put on an Evotech tail tidy to smarten up the back end. I'm also in the process of looking / trying on leathers and boots. I can't find any that i feel comfy in!
I have all of that to come with the clothing its a good time of year though as they will be getting rid of stuff in the sales. The triumph dealership in Cheltenham had a 2 peice leather suit for i think about £400. I did read on here the importance of good boots I will need to find some good all weather boots for my daily commute on the motorway.
Oh forgot to add, I'm getting a new plate as I don't like the airbrake that came with the bike. It will have a slogan on it, there's a thread on it someplace. No alarm on my bike, I find them too fiddly. Get an Optimate (battery tender) if you have an alarm - it charges to suit battery. I keep my bike on it all the time, even after a long run. Where do you commute to?
Ed, I just bought an Optimate 4, the bike is plugged in now, is it just a case of leaving it plugged in and forgetting about it til I get to ride?
