Just a word of caution. In the new MoT manual in its dragt form. Thry mention hid upgrade using a HID bulb kit in a lamp not intended for the use of hid bulbs will not be accepted. There's nothing about leds but then itdi only a draught. See:- https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...l-for-classes-1-and-2-from-may-2018-draft.pdf
Yes it's due to the poor quality of the aftermarket HID bulb kits causing issues. LED up grades are quite new. Buy like it's only a drauft.
Swapped my HID back for my mot 2yrs ago but left it in last year and still it passed ok so i guess the beam can't be too far out. its easy to switch back if the new mot rules come in. Has anybody tried a bike with an LED headlight yet, i know some on the car forums are less than impressed compared with HID.
Car OE headlights are great.( On my car they're very good). So OE ( like Yamaha) should be as good an upgrade.
Aslong as the beam is adjustable and in the range of normal bulbs then it’s no issue.. Would love to know how Hids are a failure when new factory cars are coming out with them and projectors fitted??? Happy I run daytime hours only on track bodywork
Ok well an hid light is produced by an arc of plama. Because of the heat this"light source is in effect this shape " (" on its side. Apposed to the incandescent fillimant this shape "I " on itsi side. So the reflector and it's optics focus the beam by different curves etc. Plus due to the higher heat produced by the hid the reflector and lens material are higher heat resistant. Pluss the lamps have washers to help remove the baked on grim. Also so that you are less inclined to dazzle on coming traffic ,self leveling is employed.
