I Test rode the 2011 model of the ZX10R whilst I was waiting for my Gixer to be serviced (that later turned out to be the dealership finding massive fault with the gixer and offering me a Daytona as a swap in return.) anyway I digress the ZX10R is an absolute hooligan to ride but I should imagine that owning one is a lot like herpes - great fun catching it but not so much fun to live with on a daily basis. The onboard computers were a nice touch I thought and the best bit was you could turn them off and just enjoy riding as the biker gods intended. You can have three settings for the throttle control delivery which are - 1.) Race 2.) Road 3.) Fuel Saving (Aka Granny Mode) You can also have three settings for the traction control which are - 1.) Fully on 2.) Half on 3.) Off So given that the bike was mine only for an hour to play about on I setting the throttle response to Race and traction control to off and then set about having some immense fun! The bike also had a two brothers system on it and this was pretty damn loud with some lovely pops and bangs on the over run. Still a 1000cc bike that revs to 14,500rpm is pretty insane I ran out of bottle once the revs had reached 10,000rpm but thought the display and controls on the bike were easy to use and quite funky. However after an hour of riding the Ohlins shocks had smashed my wrists to pieces and I was well and truly happy to know that I didn't have to go through that pain again I think it would be great as a track weapon or perhaps a fair weather riders weekend toy but I would not recommend one for daily use because along with the shocks the race power delivery through the throttle feels like the grim reaper is sitting on your pillion trying to rip your spine out. So in summary a really good hoot to ride but don't buy one unless you can't feel pain ever because after an hour you will wonder why you bothered to go out riding it in the first place. But if you have the opportunity to ride one as a test definitely do so because it is a good little joy ride if nothing else. Incidently I test rode the Daytona directly after this and have to say the Daytona was like nothing else ever on this planet still cannot get over what an amazing machine the Daytona really is.
good write up mate , always good to have a read up on another bike , this bike was on my short list along with the 1000sx ? but its too focused for the sort of riding i do now I'm old & decrepit .......
I was looking at the ZX10R as MSS Kawasaki are just up the road from me, I even have the bumpf on it. At the end I couldn't justify it and wasn't going to get suckered into having a test ride as that's just a "Let's go and just LOOK at the Puppies" situation. In the end I like the track more than the road at the moment and I'll put my money into that. The 2006 road bike stays.
Bollox Never to old Andy for anything, and that new bike of yours ain't no old farts bike.... you telling me you have not ragged that beast  yet!!! I know you have, she forces you  at least once an hour, I mean day, sorry week...

Thanks guys and +1 on the above you're never too old Andy I would say if you get the chance to try one on track take it as I am sure it will really come alive there but have to agree with Speedy on here when he said the other night that the daytona is one of the few bikes that you can actually use all of on the road and I have to agree.
