The 675 gave me the impression of a flat battery the other day with nothing but slight attempt of the starter. I checked the battery which appears to be fine and is kept charged by a optimate. After reconnecting the battery and trying again smoke poured from the immobiliser. I checked the ignition fuse and the 30A main fuse and they are ok. Has anyone heard of this before or have any ideas of what the problem might be?

Fwiw I've not heard of that previously Andy, what year is your bike & do you have any pictures of the location the smoke came from.?

It’s a 2008 but it’s definitely the immobiliser. I’ve disconnected and removed it and it stinks like a burnt out transformer. I’ve bought a blanking plug but I’m hoping it’s the wrong one as the ignition isn’t coming on. There were no signs of any other problems before it wouldn’t start.

I assume that you're talking about the Triumph branded Datatool alarm unit then Andy. As I understand it, they have their own backup battery built in. Perhaps the datatool battery inside the unit is what has failed.?
The blanking plug/bypass plug is removed when the alarm is installed, however (as I understand it) the alarm communicates with the ECU when installed. So if it has failed when armed (and immobiliser circuit activated) presumably simply un plugging it and fitting the blanking plug wouldn't switch the "immobilise command" off ??

Yes, it’s a S4 Datatool. How do you get around that problem then? I don’t really want to connect up a replacement unit only for some other problem to damage that one too, but is that the only option?

The best option really is to throw that stupid thing in the bin, I had nothing but issues with mine, dead batteries a plenty. After years of issues I just got the blanking plug and did away with it.
