Morning all, just upgraded my R with Bodis decat headers (amazing quality BTW!) and MWR filter with Venturi velocity stacks. Dyno figures were pretty good but the tuner mentioned that he needed to adjust the timing. Apart from the headers the only other change I made was to fit new plugs. I ordered them directly from triumph but when they arrived the gap was 0.8mm and not the 0.9mm mentioned in the manual. the tolerance is 0.1mm so although not perfect they were in range. I called triumph to ask if they gap the plugs and was told to fit them as is. Obviously I’m now wondering if the required ignition adjustment was a result of the engine mods or my poorly gapped plugs?
The timing has been adjusted so apparently it’s absolutely spot on now but I was advised to run an octane booster. Is anyone else using this additive on the 675?
Nice modifications should sound great and have a bit more oomph, looks the business. On one of my race bikes I have a standard 765rs engine from 2019 with an arrow stage 3 exhaust system and Venturi stacks and a race air filter,so pretty much the same as you as far as gas flow is concerned and I raced this last season on normal fuel with no problems. I have used octane booster from Wynns in my 675 race bike when unable to get 102 higher octane fuel.I was advised to use these by someone who really knows there stuff because it’s a tuned supersport engine with much higher compression.Hope this is of some help to you
As plugs age in an engine, the arcing gradually burns away the two contact points that the spark passes "from and to". Over an extended period this has the effect of increasing the gap, so it would seem entirely correct that the supplied plugs would be set to the "minimum correct" when new imho. I have never personally heard of plug gap effecting the optimum ignition timing. Furthermore I don't see how it could ? Those downpipes look very smart, how do they compare for weight please, and does the altered route for the third cylinder compromise access or clearance for anything ??
Many thanks for the reply. please see pictures showing weight of both to include support springs. only installation issue I encountered was the horn bracket needed to be altered a few degrees. apart from that the fit and finish was spot on.
Very impressive that @Thor Kelly , thanks. FYI your O/S placement could be having a marked effect on the indigenous,,,, : There's a marked influx of members from Spain lately (a quick glimpse at the "intro's" section can confirm).
