Hello, I've just installed some proton flush mounts to my daytona 2006-8, I followed the instructions, black wire to black and red/orange together (so as to keep the standard flash rate according to the instructions) to the white wire, the flash rate is now fast and i want it standard, the shop I brought these from insisted they wouldn't need a new relay or anything, but I'm guessing I do, anybody had the same? How did you sort it?? Thanks!
If you've replaced standard bulbs with LEDs, and the Protons don't have integrated resistors, then you'll need either a new LED compatible flasher unit or resistors. Do you have any info on the Protons? Did you get the programmable ones where you can change the flash-rate? Have you changed the rear indicators to LED ones too?
Hello, yes they are LEDs, the information on the box was very basic, I asked about resistors/relay when I brought them and was told as i was only doing the fronts then I shouldn't need them, I've looked on Google and just seem to be getting mixed results, some people have had to fit resistors/relays and some say they haven't!!
yes apparently they are the programable ones but I've followed the instructions on keeping the standard flash rate by joining the red and orange wires together and it hasn't worked!!
Without knowing too much about them, there's not a lot of advice I can give - others may have experience of them. However, I'd assume they don't draw much current (i.e. are the same as standard LED indicators) so the flasher unit may flash fast. If they are flashing fast constantly when on (i.e. not fast flashing then off then fast flashing then off) then you'll need an LED relay. I wouldn't mess about with Resistors as the Protons are not standard LED indicators and you don't know what the minimum operating voltage is.
Yes they constantly flash fast, I don't fancy messing around with resistors so i guess i will need a relay, thanks for the advice, is there a relay you've had experience of and can recommend?
I'd not heard of Proton flush LED indicators before, but I've just done a bit of finding out for you. They are pretty much the same as the ones I have on my bike. The "programmable" bit that it is referring to would appear to be an option only to increase the brightness. They are still low consumption LED units, and as Wyrm points out require your circuit to be adapted to work correctly with them. IMHO a dedicated LED flasher unit is the better approach to sorting this.

I got the Triumph one myself, but any LED compatible flasher unit should be fine - though it may need a little wiring up depending on the connections (the Triumph one just needed connecting a wire to the chassis - easy).
I've recently fitted THIS ONE when installing my Watsen / Triumph LED combo..Works a treat. Very easy to fit, no fairing removal and no earth wire to connect
i think speedy has a triumph led relay listed on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-TIGER ... 3a8fe4ebaa phone them direct forum members get a discount speedy675@hotmail.co.uk 0208 291 2863 or mobile 07930752119 always best to try speedy for new parts first
