Hello all, I got bored on my V-Strom commute bike, so picked up a low miles '06 Daytona to have a bit of fun on at weekends instead. Wanted something similar to, but better than, an old SV650s I used to tool around on. This fits the bill nicely. Great bike, stunning engine. Looking forward to some upgrades and eventual sunny days! First job in progress is swap out that beast of a rear spring. I'm 68kg and it felt like a hardtail riding it home
Welcome to our friendly little forum PMod. There have been a fair proportion of forum members who have progressed from the Sv650. without wanting to appear patronising, you are aware that (as a first step) the spring can be slackened off with a C spanner
Cheers for that. Not patronising at all. You have no clue of anyone's competence level when they jump on these forums. I've got the standard spring backed off to min pre-load and I'm just about getting enough sag but it's not ideal. I've got a 550lb/in spring to fit with some adapter collars I got made up in work. I'm an engineer by trade, so good with the mechanicals. Will post up a thread once done. Looking forward to fettling the little monster. Loving it so far.
Welcome in. Hopefully you'll post some pictures of the new bike. Lots of knowledgeable folk on here...who are happy to help. Good luck getting her set up. It makes all the difference
As soon as the weather plays fair, I'll get it outside and take some better pictures! For now, here she is hiding in the garage getting that spring swapped.
That looks very low mileage (judging from condition & state of the discs, manifold etc). In the fastest colour too.!
Great looking bike, same color as my first one back in 2008.Sure you’ll have loads of fun on it when the weather permits. Rode my brothers SV 650 in the twisty bits around Andorra had really enjoyed it,but haven’t ridden anything that corners like a set-up Daytona. Loads of info/knowledge on this friendly forum.
Cheers all. Just over 7k on it. and the previous owner/s clearly never went near a wet road. No corrosion anywhere, which is fab coming from a few Suzukis and Kwaks in a row that seemed to corrode if you looked at them. Swapped the rear spring at the weekend and added some tank pads. Nipped out to work on it this morning and it just puts a big grin on my face. Got me thinking about track days already
