I'm just surprised to see that a 9N is so similar to the kg/mm equivalent which is 0.91. I just assumed people were using the wrong terminology as I've never researched into all this this far up until now.
so I ordered 8.5N fork spring and 5W oil from K-tech today, will be delivered to my mechanic's workshop tomorrow, and he will do the job for me on Friday morning. Unfortunately, K-tech said they haven't got 100N rear spring for standard daytona shock at the moment, and won't have it in stock until late March.....that sounds unbelievable..... Does anyone know what oil level or air gap are ideally? I have seen a few threads people follow the owner's manual's recommend and end up the forks has too much oil in them....so they tried what Dave Moss suggest 110mm and it works well.....they said owner's manual states 72mm, but I just checked mine and can't find it anywhere.....anyone has experience on it?
Funny you should say that. My suspension guy told me yesterday that I got the last 100N spring. Sorry mate. There are other companies that do rear springs though.
I would love to know whether the rear shock can be 'fixed' with a spring as I never really got to the bottom of what the issue was with mine, I tried just to lower the preload but it made the bike horrid. Maybe a spring would have done it, the Ohlins does feel incredible though!
I tried call the Ohlins UK distributor FTR suspension today....they said Ohlins doesn't make shock spring for standard daytona shocks, they only make shock spring for 675R's ohlins shock....and Kais said they would stick K-tech for me as well but since K-tech doesnt have it in stock they won't be able to get it for me as well.....
Ye, they had 8 of 100N daytona 675 shock springs delivered last week, but all gone in a week time................ I don't know where else to get shock springs from now..... PDQ was trying to sell me their Nitron shock after saying they don't have shock springs for me, too. Hagon and Hyperpro only do progressive which is not what I am after. so any oil level/air gap recommendation, guys?
You could order from the racetech in the US; http://www.racetech.com/ Or http://www.solomotoparts.com/Race-Tech- ... 675-06-11/
Funny that, PDQ also told me not to bother with the spring change and that I needed a Nitron, and not the Nitron sport but the race one... Hmm
My guess is that you need to get the damping upgraded (ie like your front). Even with my Nitron which is set quite firm for track use, its miles better than standard because the spring is controlled in a far more precise manner. Just changing the spring won't do miracles IMO
In terms of damping etc I'm sure the aftermarket shocks are better but that's not to say the standard is bad. Certainly more than good enough for the road. I reckon a spring change will make a massive difference.
Mitch, I changed my whole shock for an Ohlins unit. Sorry I wrote that in a really confusing way. I just meant that I was told the standard one wouldn't be fixed by a spring change and that the damping circuit just doesn't have the control or adjustment as standard. I should probably say, I can see why, as we all know with an aftermarket shock like Ohlins/Nitron, if you wind all the adjusters all the way in the shock wouldn't even compress, which is really dangerous, Manufactures can't afford for that to happen so there 'adjustment' is within a range. It's just whether that range suits us all. I know that at times my bike really scared me, I was fully out of the seat a few times on the way into a corner as I was leaning in and that wasn't good, all higher speed stuff like 60+MPH corners.
Well since owning a 675 I've all read is about how bad the rear shocks are and that rebound should be 1-3 clicks out for it to do anything! Like phil said they just don't have the adjustment to be fine tuned and its a complete compromise for all styles of riding and rider. Deegee had his damping sorted by MCT in a standard shock (and front) and it transformed the bike as he let me ride it for a session at Lydden hill. I believe it was due to the damping as I can get 30mm of rider sag from my rear shock and I'm just over 10 stone but I'd be interested in hearing his comments once its done for sure as a spring change still make a noticeable difference.
I'm sure there'll be an improvement. The damping on the standard shock can't be so bad that it's unuseable on the road.
I think you hit the nail on the head Hadies, it's usable on the road but is lacking if you're running hard on track. Mitch is right in that MCT sorted my std suspension units, the damping on both ends was poor and the bike was running wide on the throttle and felt unstable on the brakes, they sorted it all out including new springs and shim stacks etc for less than the price of a good shock. The bike works for me on the reworked units now, but I'm under no illusions that it would work as well as £1k worth of kit, but for not a lot I've got a bike that can hold its own in the fast group on a trackday.
Of course, I didn't mean it to sound like it was that bad but it's certainly not ideal. I got my suspension upgrades at great prices so hard to say no otherwise I was going to go down the same route and giving MCT a visit.
I reserve one with K-tech already, they wil let me know as soon as they hav in stock but i might not need it, wil see after my frd play with the suspension in a bit, im not looking for comfy ride since I dun use bike for commuting....but I want the bike stay in control and nice planted feeling for me feel good to go faster on track days and weekend blast....at the moment the back feels good for the requirements but since I soften the front the back might need something jus to balance the bike... thanks for everyone's help, now I am happy
