First post, Daytona 675 Buying advice - Complete n00b

  1. The black monoblock nissin calipers with a Brembo RCS master cylinder is the best combo!

I'd get the non R as it looks much better in blue and then treat it to some fancy bling next year once you've got used to it, modding is half the fun.

  2. I'm not sure I agree that the Nissan black calipers are as good as the brembo's on a non ABS bike, but the brembo's on the 2013 aren't particularly special due to the ABS which I think robs feel and initial bite.

If I was buying another Daytona (and I have been tempted) I would buy a tidy standard bike with the exhaust and go and buy an aftermarket shock and some light wheels and I think it would be perfect

Having had experience of a selection of 675s (not saying others haven't -this is just my experiences) and owning two Rs I can say the R is worth it in my view. The brakes have been better on the R than on standard - and ABS just doesn't get in the way at all (it only comes on when you need it so won't affect initial bite), but it is easy to lock up the rear so you'll notice it there. The suspension is better but still worth having set up properly for yourself. For all models: Worth asking whether the tune has been altered at all if an older model, and whether the RR update has been done, and if the owner has ever been on the 675.cc forum (or look for 675.cc stickers).

Thanks guys, can't thank you boys enough really helpful!

Somehow tonight I've managed to get my insurance down even further, £490 for Fully comp and £280 for TPF&T.

I'm just left Umming and 'RRRRR'ing whether to go for it or not!

I've had a couple of quotes in too for delivery and it's so cheap and reasonable I think for ease I'd just go for it.

Looking at some sold prices on ebay however, £4k+ does get you some good bits of kit.

Do you think £4500 is the right ballpark for a 2011 FSH 8500 mile daytona, quickshifter, arrow can?

I'm tempted to try and go in slightly lower (if I like it in person)

    Cheers all.

As far as I remember they sold a load of those bikes with those options fitted from the factory.

Separately used your talking £450 ish.

Picture also shows a gel seat too, plus the alarm.

    Sounds a fair enough deal.

    As always, it's buyer beware.

As above - Sounds like a decent enough deal on the face of it - do the usual hpi checks, take your insurance details (so you can test ride it) and meet at the sellers house, preferably with a friend with you - if paying cash, then don't go alone! I'd also usually suggest Test riding it before paying anything as that's the only way to find out if anything feels wrong - but it is slippy/cold out there, so that could be a risk itself testing an unfamiliar bike with potentially unfamiliar/unsuitable tyres in difficult conditions... My mate bought his last two bikes "blind", but those were from dealers.

Always worth offering 100 or so less, never know what the sellers mental cut-off point is and it'll pay for your bike transport. I'd also be prepared to walk away if something doesn't look or feel right.

    The perfect advice from FF.
As for the offer; He can only say no, so fwiw I would go in with a friendly & pleasantly presented " ££ cheeky low offer"..
When he says no, don't be in the slightest confrontational or argue. Simply feign disappointment & point out that it could do with (insert anything you spotted, scratches/worn tyres/chain/next service etc...) spending, and that it's the wrong time of year to be buying.. Then respond with the warmest pleading smile you can muster; "well, what's the very least you'll take for it mate.."
    Good luck.

TL;DR I saw the bike, was really pleased with it, went on holiday... haven't done anything since.

For some reason I'm mulling over it lmao. Why can't it be summer!

Need to make a decision quick!

Thanks to all for your help.

How often do you think decent condition 2011 daytonas in blue / gold with quickshifter / arrow can come up for under £4700 ?

    Ahhhhh!

Fwiw I would suggest that (if you liked it, & can afford it) then now may not actually be a bad time to buy after all, as the motorcycle market is very seasonally effected.
If you buy, and change your mind for whatever reason, selling it in a few months when demand has returned to the market may even see you with a profit.!
If you don't buy, & someone else snaps it up, then you will be comparing all future bikes to the one that got away & by the time you give up & choose to take the plunge, demand will be returning & prices will be higher.

  11. If I had the money I'd have it as a 2nd bike in a heartbeat

I had a Daytona at 21 without test riding
Only could compare it to a v strom 650, but I still thought it had torque
Much friendlier for the following 16,000 miles I've commuted on her for

Shame this wasn't late Summer -
£5k would of got you a 2013 675R white / red on auto trader. Sellers we're falling over themselves.
Seems prices have shot up now though phoar.

Even more surprising is that residual values are stupidly strong
£1k more then some 2014 bikes with 5-6k miles will get you one of the last brand new Daytona!

  13. average price for 675r all last summer was 7k plus at dealers thats 13 plate 14 plate was 7900 plus

Had same choice myself last year, wanted to pay upto 5.5k spent 6.5k on a white and blue 675 abs. Absolutely love it. What an engine.

My advice, get one. You'll never look back.

Considering selling my 2014 675R, but not sure what to advertise it for as prices seem all over the shop at present!

Hold out for what you want for it, mine aint going anywhere for under 8K and that would be near enough put back to standard. not worth selling until the sun shines

  19. I sold my 13 675r for 7k to a dealer November 2015 with average mileage, and tbh that was fairly strong mileage. I've since seen them drop fairly low (around 6k private) but now I'm looking quite a bit at them and the dealers have upped the price again. I suspect because of a recent spate of articles about the end of the Daytona (whether true or not). If I was buying again I would buy the last of the first gen bikes, circa 2012, it's a very capable bike, maybe small percentages weaker in each area than the new shape but cans be had for more reasonable prices.

Also... the underseat Arrow pipe sound is unbeatable, it's just sounds stunning and is helped by the pops and crackles

I was offered over 6k for my 13 675R Trackbike?, I look around regular and for a good 11/12 675R you would pay 6k and over. My 64 675R isn't going anywhere under £7600/£7800 in standard trim would rather keep it.
