    Hi all.

I hope I'm in the right place!

I'm 22, UK, and for my next bike I've narrowed it down to a couple of bikes. 1 being, the Daytona 675.

The main thing I'm after is... things to look out for? is there a particular vintage year to go for? and in general how reliable are these bikes?

I've only owned Honda's so far and have been impressed.

The 675's that take my fancy so far are the 2007-2009 models, I'd love one in blue/gold or black/gold. Just putting the feelers out there, the only thing I've read negative about them so far is they can use engine oil? Is this true?

What's the differences between the years? It will only be used for pure pleasure and the odd commute, won't be doing more than 5k a year I imagine.

Any other pointers to look out for?

    Cheers in advance guys,

    Tom

Hi Tom, & welcome to our friendly little forum.

Fwiw I was torn between a CBR600rr & the 675 when I started looking. I am so pleased I made the right choice.

All the 675's are brilliant bikes. Obviously the newer, lower mileage & better maintained the more you will expect to pay.
So it really comes down to how much you want to invest IMHO.
There was an issue with the charging circuit (Regulator & Rectifier) on some models, however Triumph paid for them to be replaced FOC so there should be no reason to be concerned if you read about that.
Post 2008 there were changes to the engine & wiring that allowed for slightly higher revving & a plug & play quickshifter.
Other than that, it's mainly cosmetic.

Good luck, & you've chosen a wise time of year to buy mate.

In the right place for sure and welcome - the 2009 model got a few tweaks including more adjustable suspension, a few extra hp and some extra rev range. You should be able to get one of these privately for about £4,500+ if your budget can go that far. Saying that, my mate used to have a gold 07 one and had no problem keeping up!

As StMarks says, either way the 675 is great on the roads and fantastic in and out of the corners, just has a lot more character than the in line 4's IMO. Thing to watch out for is the 12,000 mile major service/been loved and any mods on the bike are a bonus (keep or sell on here!️).

    Enjoy the hunt!

Wow, perfect responses already thanks very much!

I have a 2007 Hornet in relatively good nick that I reckon I will get £2.2k for pretty easily. I think circa 4.5k is what I'll be looking to spend. Which reminds me I better just check insurance out.

08-09 models sound like the ones to 'hone-in' on then! Will be keeping my eyes peeled.

That's exactly what I'm after Flyer, a bit of character. I've never ridden a triple before. My current IL4, ~100bhp I find myself in the latter end of the rev range and start worrying for my licence rather alot. Granted, it will be the same on the triple If I twist the throttle far enough but I'm hoping it will give more in the lower revs too, certainly enough to enjoy and be flickable! Thanks for the heads up on the 12k service.

Which reminds me - How are these bikes for high mileage? Providing they have been serviced well, any reason not to buy a higher mileage one? Must admit I'd like to 'treat' myself to one without moon mileage but I'm not too fussy.

    Thanks!

Some guys/gals on here commute on their bikes and have racked up big miles, so are better places to comment on mileage etcetera.

If you can (realise at 22 this is not always easy) find a willing dealer with a 675 you like the look of, then it's worth having a test ride back to back against some of the other 600's - I did this in 09' and tried the CBR600RR, Gixer 600/750, R6 and ducati 848 - you'll know then. Think you're wise to get some insurance quotes first (street triple might be also something worth considering...?).

It was a bit of a gradual change to the new model in 2009 but the easiest way to tell them apart is that the gold brake calipers became black (they also became monoblocks). 2008 will definitely be the old model.
My Daytona was very well worn out at over 60K miles although there is one over 100k miles and @cpszx 's street triple is still going approaching 90K. So they can last, but as you know the lower mileage would be better.
    have a look at https://www.675.cc/675/threads/daytona-675-through-the-years.9486/#post-120034
    Black /gold was 2008
    Blue / gold was 2010/11

There's no reason a Daytona would use more oil than anyother bike - probably all down to how it was run in.

Tom, don't be silly, now you just have to find the right Daytona :D

  8. I had an 06 Grey model. The only thing wrong with it was I couldn't get out on it enough! Sure you'll find that's a common problem with all bikes ;).

Looks like I've found the right place indeed!

Flyer; How did you find the GSXR 750? That may or may not be the 'other' party involved... As for the street triple, as much as I like it, there's just something missing with the looks for me. I've always had bikes I like but don't turn around and think, phroooar sex on legs. With the daytona, I get this sensation and it's the sensation I want on my next bike haha!

I will definitely try and bag a test ride somehow. I've only ever owned nakeds so I'm expecting aching wrists. There's a joke in there somewhere..

Nice one Stu that's exactly what I was after! Nice to see a couple of you getting high mileage from them.

Yes AshGambit.. I know the feeling bigtime. Uni held me back big style last year, now that's done and dusted should be able to play a bit more.

Another question - Servicing; How are these bikes to service / work on yourself? I've done most things to my hornet myself bar the brakes, but an oil change is nice and easy. Do the fairings get in the way or are they okay?

    Cheers,
    Tom

Hi Tom , I have had 3 Daytona's the first was an 08 mk1 did 19k miles on this without issue
As for wrist ache , well it is quite a sporting position you are forced into on the Daytona , the newer model are a bit more forgiving , but TBH you will get used to it after all naked street bike are bad for wind buffeting ... There's always +&- for all bike , however there are plenty myself included who have done some impressive euro trips on the Daytona covering big miles ( I once rode from the Black Forest to Birmingham in one day with no real issues )
Comparing the latest model I have now I would say there is a slight difference but it's basically the same beast
HID lights are a good mod on mk1 s as the stock lights are crap for nigh time use
Hope you find what your looking for.

I am also with you with the wow factor you need to look back before you lock the garage or it's not going to be a keeper
I had a street for 6 week in the summer and it is a awesome bike make no mistake but hasn't , for me got the looks of the Daytona especially since they ditched the iconic twin round headlights put it a personal chose

I must admit prices seem high / steady for them.

Saying that, I bought my 07' Hornet 29,000 miles FSH for £2400 over 2 years ago. It's not worth much less now on 34,000 miles. Then again I think that may be? Dealers prices of course.

good example that mate (and the fastest colour etc)

definitely sounds like he'd be open to offers

just check the 12k service has been done if i were you (or ask him to get it serviced before buying - doesnt sound like its had much action in the last 4 years - maybe a new battery too?)

Welcome in. Great to see new people looking in. I bought my Daytona new in 2009 (09 plate) as a first bike. It's done 28k miles now without issue...apart from the reg rec which StMarks mentioned. Triumph were great and fixed it for free at 4 yrs old. The finish has held up well and it's surprisingly good on fuel! I paid £6.1k for mine and I am amazed to think I would still get about half of that back if I sold it! Worth checking if you are paying 2009 my money that it's a 2009 my bike. Black engine and calipers I think are the giveaway on later models. I'm sure you'll make the right choice. Have fun choosing
