Was having a natter with Steff at the weekend about doing something about the state of the pipes on my bike.

Obviously I ride it all year round and in all weathers (cant be helped am afraid) so buffing them with some polish is out of the question as it’ll last about 5 minutes.

My only other option (?) is buying an exhaust wrap so my questions are thus?

Has anyone on here done it to their road bike?

Is it worth it i.e. how long does it last?

How easy is it to do?

    Cheers :))

I have heard that it'll get dirt stuck to it and will look like crap pretty quick with the added benefit of not being easy to clean.

Have you considered enamel coating the pipes?

no i hadnt tbh mate but i guess my questions would be the same

i.e price/durability and ease of application?

  4. I've seen exhaust wrap in black, thought it looked tidy and surely being black it won't show dirt the same?

I tried it once many years ago on my TZR, it lasted maybe a year but it was covered by 2stroke gunky shit. Where abouts on the exhaust will you be covering red?

Can't remember the name, sorry, but they're a company that I've seen a couple of times at bike shows.

Probably cost a fair bit more than wrapping and would no doubt be a "send item to them" situation.

    Did look smart though.

Quick search found these guys (though I got it wrong, it's ceramic coating):

Get a quote from these guys too. Would be interested to hear what they say. Plus they do different colours. And claim what they use helps with heat and all that jazz.

  12. When it gets wet over a period of time it can start to rot the exhaust!

    cheers chaps

i got a quote from performance1coatings and it was £180 incl VAT, another £45 for a 3 day turnaround (as opposed to a week) and another £50 for "internal coating"

and yes they said it would aid performance by keeping the heat in

Not really as I've completely stripped it down and cleaned everything

  16. I have mine wrapped and need to get it off, it caught fire at Cartegena once (Bex's saw that one), luckily as I was coming in the pits and a mate got it out. Think the dirt caught fire.....:D

  17. It would have been tyre debris... ;) the wrap itself isn't flammable. .. x
