    Hi,
I want to remove this cover but don't know what's under neath.
I'd like to remove it to strip it down to the metal and repaint it.

Will I need a new gasket and is oil likely to leak everywhere?

    Thx. IMG_20230918_162221.jpg

If that’s the clutch cable below it, then I believe people class it as a pulse/timing cover.
I would believe if it was taken off you would have oil behind it

Looks to me like your pic' shows the cover plate for the balancer shaft ?
It is above the static oil level, so removing it will not cause your engine oil to drain out. However there will be residual oil trapped in there that will be released when you remove the cover. There is a gasket, so you will need a new one ready when you come to re-fit this.

Thanks all. Great advice as always. I'll get onto Fowler's for a gasket.
I need a gasket for the stator cover as that has to come off to be painted too.
Not looking forward to painting the engine behind the exhaust headers. That'll be a bit of a mission taking off the forks, radiator ( which also needs painting) and the exhaust to get to where the paint is flaking off.

I've seen a few 675's with little patches, but fwiw I don't recall ever seeing anything as bad as that end cover Gremlin.!
behind the exhaust headers, would it not be easier to simply brush paint some engine enamel. - Because in that obscured location any brush marks are not exactly going to shout out, are they,,,

The rest of the bike is not too bad.
    It's just around the engine.
From what I can gather the bike has been stood for few years and not cleaned before hand.

In the background is my 2010 ST.
Great bike when it runs with over 30k on the clocks but it permanently suffers from electrical issues!
