Any ideas on what this is and what is involved for the repair? It will leave a small puddle under the bike when it happens but it does not happen every time. Only happens when running. I believe that the spot shown in the video is where its leaking from but I could be wrong.

Should the bike not be ridden?

Have you checked that the expansion bottle is not overfilled Mason.?
If the coolant does indeed originate from there, that would suggest the cylinder base gasket was leaking. Not a problem I recall anyone ever raising previously on here.?

  3. I'd take the fairings off for a better look, there is a coolant hose that runs across that side of the bike.
I hope it's not the base gasket for your sake, and the rest of us with 2013 bikes:(

    Thank you for the reply

Yes, the expansion tank for the coolant is always at normal levels. I check it every time before and after I ride the bike just to be sure. I also check it when I see the leak happening and it seems normal in between the lines.

edit: i checked today again and the leak is coming from higher than the spot shown in the video

    Thanks for the reply,

I have seen the hose that youre talking about but did not notice any leaks coming from that area.

I'll get the fairings off and check it out soon.

On your 2013 have you had any coolant/oil leaking issues?

  6. No oil or coolant leaks on my bike, touch wood:confused:

I assume it's not leaking a lot if you're not having to top up the coolant?

Does your bike still operate at the normal temperature, no overheating?

Yea the temperature is normal even when riding it a little hard. I had another look today and it it is coming from higher up than the spot shown in the video. I have read that many people have had coolant leaks and just had to tighten some clamps to fix the leak.

I'll be taking the fairings off this weekend,if I can find the right guide for the 2013+ models.

Hopefully the leak isn't something too serious!

  8. Hopefully it is coming from somewhere higher up and it'll be a lot easier to fix in that case.

Fairings are ok once you've done it a few times, the plastic push rivet things are the worst.

Remove the cockpit infill and I think two upper mounting screws underneath it, remove the push rivets from the v piece and the upper radiator infill piece, remove the screws holding the fairing on the side and the two underneath, then the whole side fairing will come away as one, but there are two tabs on the top that hook into the upper fairing section so you need to gently slide the fairing towards the rear of the bike when you remove it.
The LH side holds the reg/rec so you'll need to disconnect that as you remove the fairing.
Although just removing the fairing side may not give you as much access as you think, may have to remove the fuel tank depending where it's leaking from.

In fact you might be better just lifting the fuel tank to start with, just remove the seat and then the two bolts holding the front of the tank and it just pivots up, no need to disconnect anything, much less work than the fairing.

Triumph don't tighten the hose clips at the factory, I'm guessing to give us something to do. One of those screwdriver type Flexi nutdrivers has been a must for me over the years as the clips are everywhere but awkward to get at. I'd wager a little money that it's either a loose hose clamp or the expansion bottle seeping when it gets hot. Mine never overheats but if I fill the bottle much above minimum...it spits it out. Good luck. I hope it's something really simple.
