I'm posting this to both promote protection and to warn of certain inadequacies

I high sided my 675r at the weekend, right side of the bike took most of the impact, here is the current crash report, I will try to add pics as I get them to illustrate, apologies for the crappy quality in some.

GB racing covers - did a fantastic job and protected what they should
GB frame sliders - also did a good job, there is a tiny scratch to the righ fairing and to the lip of the alternator cover, they could be in my view a little longer
R&G fork and swingarm protectors - right swingarm protector really took a big impact, the metal bolt is bent upwards however the singarm is unmarked so very good job, forks took no impact at all
R&G bar ends - this is my only complaint, they did not fit properly from the start, would slide out with throttle action over time, if you pull on them they will just slide out so the fixing is not good enough in my view - in the accident the bolt sheared off and i've got damage to the end of the handle bar and the lever snapped.

So it's going to be expensive but not as much as it could have been, the reason for the extent of the damage is the bike rolled but i don't have to replace the side fairings which is great!!!!!

So in short i really recommend you get protection if you don't have it, and for the moment i don't recommend R&G bar ends though i have mailed them and will let you know what kind of response i get.

This may be a bit late but sounds like the bar insert perhaps wasn't located properly with the small pin mine used to do something simular all be it on a older model

it's one of the more minor issues to be honest....but it all racks up and could have done without it. Are you saying there's a pin indent inside the tube to lock it in?? I had it done by my workshop with a whole list of other stuff, when I went back they said it was fixed in as tight as possible. cheers

Glad nothing major happened to the bike. Nice to know the GB stuff worked for you. More importantly... how was the rider? You get away without harm?

Yes....there should be two of them...if you peel back the grip on the left bar they should be visible.

Bad luck about the high-side and glad you're OK, but in all honesty you're extremely lucky the damage was not more severe, regardless of whether the bike has crash protection or not, as most protectors are designed for low-speed low-sides, tipovers, etc.

Do you have a link for the track you rode on?....I always enjoy seeing tracks from other parts of the world.

bugger well i'll check that with the left hand side which is also loose, yes rider is ok, did a lot of bouncing came off around 100kph and landed on my coxic at the end, xrays all clear, just very soar and have some abrasion burns on my knee and elbow. Helmet and shoulder plates on my jacket took a serious beating so I guess you could say it could have been worse and i've same view on the bike :)

we've only got two local tracks, Dubai and Yas, sadly when they built Yas they only thought of F1 and didn't put any runoff's in, i've been around once when they had airbags but it's a real shame. Dubai is quite nice, small and fairly technical though it's got a few rough areas

Bikes can be repaired or replaced, you can't, so good to hear you are ok !

So, cold tyres while giving it the beans...

end of 1st flying lap so yes perhaps not warmed up enough, though i think i just got on the gas too early with too much lean trying to cut the corner too tight so to pass a slower rider in front on the exit - i.e more patience needed.

added a couple extra pics of damage to protection, frame and swing arm protectors really did a good job.

Glad you survived! Shame about the bike.....crash protection defo saved you ££££££.....don't think any form of tank guards could of saved that *ouch*!

I'll echo Deftone's comments Pat, no amount of crash protection will help if the bike rolls or end-over-ends.

However, what will help is to replace the std plastics with race bodywork, it's a little lighter and a lot simpler to remove and refit, it's also less than half the price of genuine plastics. If it was a cold tyre incident I would also get tyre warmers. Door now shut on empty stable. :|

  13. GB racing do a cover for the a pulse/timing case too it covers the bottom corner which seams to be the most at risk (as your bike shows!)
Glad to hear you are ok and you can have some fun in the garage fixing her up.

Mine scratched the fairing up still, but may be because the clip on bent, rear set sheared off. Repaired it all myself but stood me for around 1400 quid.
I feel sick for you ;)
