As above. I did the 1050 mod on my STR today, and I now have 2 problems. 1. Throttle doesn't return with the usual spring, so she's revving high and not dropping back to normal/ feels too stiff. Not touched the cables, isn't like my Daytona was (GSi's felt the same) 2. Having noticed the above I must have overtightened the cheese screws, there now slightly mushed and I can't get them to budge So I'm buggered, can't get the screws out, so I can't ride it. Any clues on either please!!
Only suggestion I'd have for the screws is to use a metal super glue - glue something to the end and leave 24hrs till its welded in place then use that to turn it off.
Other option is to drill off the heads using your drill (hope you have one). Once the head is off you should be able to remove the bottom part of what its holding up - pliers then on the half of the screw now exposed and turn it out.
Make sure you have a sharp drill piece - it's gona wear the drill down fast drilling through metal and you dont want it to go blunt half way thru and start slipping around fucking up your bike.
Re: Re: Cheese screws Help Take it apart and spray wd40 inside where the cables sit. Put back together making air fixing screws are done up equally. That should do it. Or it could be its sat at the wrong angle on the bars Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I wish I could Help Steffy, but as I haven't done this famous "1050" mod I'm probably going to look pretty stupid, but... Did you lube the sliding plastic surfaces of the new tube with silicon grease.? if it is new dry plastic against dry plastic the drag coefficient of the surfaces may be enough to counteract the return spring. I always lubricate any rubber or plastic components with it whenever I’m re-assembling, and it often makes them easier to re-install as well. Don’t use mineral-based grease or oil.
You can get a little tool from halfords or similar which reverse screws into the damaged head and means you can remove it ( sorry for crap explanation) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hiya! hampster86, i can't get it apart to squirt any WD40, as the screws are buggered hehe, but i know what you mean. StMarks, nope, like a noob i didn't grease or lube anything, derrr!! i should have clearly done this, noted!! The screws are now buggered, i obviously overtightened them, still learning! However, since watching the F1 rubbish, the throttle mod now returns ok and so i'm guessing it's ok to ride.. I have squirted some WD40 around the area...Such a fool sometimes. David: Can you pop a pic' or a link to the Halfords tool?...i'm guessing i may just buy a new throttle housing and cut the other one off, as the screws are buggered...I should have known better. Thanks for all your help gents, button hit!!
U could try a phillips screwdriver and hammer(used as impact driver) so turning the screwdriver and hard ish hit. Or u could cut a slot with a hacksaw and then use a flat blade (carefull here as the head might fall apart)

I've tried everything, i'm just plop at this stuff sometimes, i even fitted the exhaust gaskets in back to front...back to bed i think!
They look good, what do they do? I still have the heads on my screws, but with circular centres where i buggered them...
With another of your "young fillies" I hope Steve! May take your mind off sticky tubes ?? The "stud extractors" that David is telling us about are the correct tool for removing this type of thing, but you need to drill a hole up the centre of the "buggered" screw, insert the stud extractor into the hole and turn it. Bit drastic for a little screw IMO. :?
Try a different screwdiver which may fit better. Or if you can put a junior hacksaw across the head so you can use a flat blade screwdiver on them. On point one you either have the cables routed wrong or possible trapped something in the housing as you put it back together. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=53.146184,-1.334379
Can't use a screwdriver as I've buggered 2 s rewdrivets already, I did the screws up with a socket set, so there really in! Silly me. Hacksaw will be very hard as the roundness of the tube is between the screws. As for the mod, seems to be free now. I'm learning. Thanks though. As the tube is ok now, I'm somewhat ok. Dont worry - I'm stupider than you - did this mod a couple of weeks ago and haven't noticed any difference. Took it off today to put on my heated grips and realised I'd put on the old throttle - GO ME!!!
