Hey everyone, i'm Matt, i owned a daytona 675 a little over a year ago which i had to sell due to new business premises being bought, but am in the process of imporing a Street Triple from the US which should be here in a week or so, hence i thought the forum would be a good source of info.
Am planning on converting it to a Daytona so any advice or help would be much appreciated, i've started to collect a few parts while i've been waiting for the container to reach this country such as shock, rearsets, forks, bodywork etc. but if anyone one knows of any differences between the models which aren't so obvious it would help me out a lot in the build.
    Cheers, Matt :D

sounds like an interesting project. It does beg the question though why not buy a Daytona in the first place? The street triple engine is tuned quite differently with less overall power for one thing.

Purely financial mate to be honest, the street came up silly cheap including shipping to get it here and i can't afford to go and by a Daytona thats all done to a spec i'd like, plus it relieves some of the winter boredom!
I have a set of standard Daytona cams ready to go in it, not really sure about anything else engine wise i read somewhere it may require an ecu also to take it to the same spec?

fair one, definantly something to do over the winter that for sure.

Not sure about the ECU you should be able to remap the street triple one with no problems. I think the Daytona has forged Pistons also where as the Street has cast ones. When your remapping the ECU you will probably need to raise the rev limit aswell.

At least starting with a street you have already got over 2 of the Daytona's niggles, the exup valve and the air flap.

You will also need to get a new rear sub frame and exhaust link pipe because the street one will have a "Y" which you wont need.

Thanks for that, i do remember having a tinker with tune Ecu with my last one so will see what can be done through that first before commiting to an ecu.
Have held on to a load of the standard Daytona parts that i stripped of my previous one as i built it purely for racing / trackdays, so luckily already have a load of stuff to fit like a standard exhaust, fork lowers & internals etc, don't suppose you know if the outer fork tubes are the same length between the two?

  6. One hell of a project I would say. Out of curiosity - how will you sort out the fornt of thee bike - mounts for fairings, lights, intake etc... is it easily changeable between ST and Daytona?

As far as i can tell mate, obviously will need the intake tube, clock mount and associated brackets but am pretty sure most of the mounting points are the same and should be pretty much unbolt the street bits and bolt on the Daytona stuff (Fingers crossed anyway) otherwise it will mean some serious time fabricating bits.
As i mentioned i hoped some of you guys on here would be a little more clued up than myself as regards to compatibility between the two?

  8. TBH I don't think anyone ever made such an attempt. People were certainly doing it the other way round though. Good luck! :)

Why would you buy a left-hand drive bike??

You do know that we have our brakes and clutch etc. on the other side, yes??

    PS...is it a CA bike?

:) bikes coming from Utah not really up on geography so not really sure where in the US that is, are thay different specs for the emissions in different states?

No...and I was kidding about the brakes, etc.......only Cali bikes are different, they have extra emissions bullshit attached to them because CARB are a bunch of dickfaces.

    Yours will be fine.

Am guessing just the headlamp dip and km's on the clock is the only difference between UK and US spec then?

    Km's??

We use miles here...but the km function can be cycled through on your clocks....it offers various combinations of km/h, mph, celsius and fahrenheit.

Have no idea about the lights being dipped either way.

Come on in matt... good luck with the build - think we'd all love to see some pics as the project progresses!!!

  16. Yeah D but aren't your miles different like your gallons? ;) ;)

And yes Matt - we definitely want to see some pics :)

Ouch!!...actually it's not our gallons that are different it's yours!...the UK and the US used to both use the same units of measure, until the UK standardised the Imperial units back in the 1820's, making your gallons bigger. :geek:

  18. Yeah yeah whatever ;) But don't you also have a dry gallon just to make it more confusing? ;)

Yeah we do, but no-one uses that anymore....I think it's virtually the same as an Imperial gallon.

Anyway, what the hell are you talking about, you Frenchie-lovin' litre-boy!!

  20. Lol... I just had a read on Wikipedia about gallons... an informative but rather boring read ;)
Let's get back to talking about bikes :)
