So I rode back from Dunmow Triumph to home yesterday. Rain, dark, very new tyres & not put a leg over a bike in over 9yrs….. felt rusty as hell & definitely sketchy. The bike was so smooth & responsive (I know it’s way off the mark of even the roughest, modern bikes but it sounded crisp & keen) I was very happy to be slower than I used to be & still safe. It’s amazing how the controls come back though! 2nd-4th was all that was needed & the ride was smooth & progressive. My 10yr old Heine Gericke Suit was just as good as day 1 as was my Astars boots. New Shoei lid was so quiet & comfortable. My old Alpinestars all-weather gloves don’t feel as good anymore though, so a quick couple of clicks online when I got in & a new pair should be at home when I get back from work tonight. Just my Kriega kit to fit today then off to Devon tomorrow morning!
Fwiw I disagree. Let's compare it, for example, to the best selling current offering: The 2021 Yamaha R6 D675 162kg - R6 190kg D675 126bhp - R6 116 bhp D675 54 ft-lb torque - R6 45.4 ft-lb It's largely the same sort of story with all the current offerings from Honda, Kwak, Suzuki, MV etc,,, Slightly lardier weight and no great performance increases over our D675. Of course the old Triumph doesn't have ABS, traction control, Euro4 compliance etc,,, but if you are wanting to control your bike, rather than have a computer hold your hand while you just sit & point, perhaps not a dealbreaker.? If you visit pretty much any trackday you will still frequently see D675's amongst the line up, and with good reason imho. Enjoy your Devon dash, hope the weather holds for you.
Have a great trip and take care. All kriega kit is fabulous... I'm guessing you've bought a tailpack? I'm with @StMarks on this one. The bike has lots of real world power and torque....as well as being as light as a feather compared to modern stuff. Don't forget to post up some pictures. It's fabulous you're back on the road.
Thank you @StMarks & @SW73 didn’t really think about the new crop of bikes having a bunch of snowflake babysitting accessories! I come from a generation of riders that use the clutch/throttle & brakes to get down the road or track. In fact, I don’t like the idea it’s not my right hand controlling how much power I get or how it’s delivered….. ABS is a good thing I think but ‘modes’ etc is just unnecessary perhaps? I’ll grab a load of pics when I can as it’s a special trip for me. I’m visiting a really good mate who is an ex-forces squaddie who suffers from bad anxiety & diagnosed PTSD. He moved down to Devon for a new start but sadly, struggles to make friends & his wife says he’s basically withdrawn & lonely outside of her & their 2 kids. I’ve planned this for months with his his wife to surprise him (another thing he hates ) to be sitting on his sofa when he gets home from work tomorrow!
That sounds awesome. Hope ur buddy enjoys the surprise and a go on the refurbished 675 haha. Also thank him from me and my fam. For looking after us.
Update: End of the 1st day, we covered 300 miles of Devon, Cornwall & Somerset today (including the Atlantic Highway, Dartmoor & Exmoor) My mate cried when he opened the door @ 7pm last night- hates surprises & didn’t think we’d see each other until mid-next year, least of all on a bike!!!! The 675 was flawless- returning 38mpg & solid on the Metzeler rubber. Got drowned on the 200+ miles down here but my 10yr old Hein Gericke suit, new AStars gloves & Kriega gear stayed safe & dry. Impressed is an understatement!
