Personally get some serious track time under your belt and learn to ride the 675 to its full potential. You'll be surprised. Mine still scares the crap out of me at times and I'm still learning. For me a thou is a waste on the road. And too much for the track yet. We wouldn't want you to make the same mistake as last time.
Do I have to remind you of what you said here? https://www.675.cc/675/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=10024&start=45#p131153 Or has everything changed now?
Just reading this mmm The R1 does produce more torque than the Beemer just less bhp at the wheel. On the looks I still like them they are great I had a new 2009 demo for a day and boy what a sound I would love to have one. Why buy the Beemer well on my R1 demo day I put my chick on the back and took it to the line in 1St. I have now learned the hard way and have grown up. Nick like you say you have learned a great deal on the daytona's and have more confidence on the bikes which is fantastic. On the too much power for the road issue well MAN UP Nuggets Too much power for Cadwell yep I would agree on that one but why do British superbikes race there ? Silverstone a nice big track for a ltr bike yep good fun by all can't wait back on in 2 weeks. End of the day each to their own the Daytona is fantastic sports bike and perfect to step up from. Nick sad to see gina go but you have the master Daytona.
I'm in full agreement with peeps here. I rode a 2011 R1 for a day it started out good by the end I the day I had a list as long as my arm of things I hated about it. I've ridden all the litres bar the panigale, you won't go faster on the R1 than you do on your 675 bar the straight bits of road. Try the blade on the road. If you want to truly go faster on the road try a ktm 990 superduke or aprilia tuono. I was faster on the 990 duke than on my 675 leaving sportsbikes including r1s for dead.
Thanks Dave first positive comment all thread. At the moment I have made no decision and was just assessing any interest in my bike should I sell it and have learned a lot more in doing so. Personally I think it is impossible to get the most out of any bike on the road even a 400 as there are just too many unknown variables to contend with oncoming traffic dick heads in audis etc. I thought my riding had improved however reading some of the comments posted I guess it hasn't. I never said I'd mastered the Daytona nor ridden it to its full potential all I did was test ride another bike and enjoyed riding it. I would never be without a Daytona they really are the best bikes in their class. Don't know what else to say really was going to go for a ride this afternoon but not sure I will now confidence is feeling pretty much dented now.
Next time if you try the R1 do it in the wet. If it kills your confidence, you know what that means. Anyway, it's your bike and your money. I know we haven't met, but I think you might be TOTY winner for a second year
I've ridden all the litres bar the panigale, you won't go faster on the R1 than you do on your 675 bar the straight bits of road. Try the blade on the road. Only 161 out of my 2010 Daytona and so far 186 on the Beemer Must admit it is much quicker on the corners and exits than the Daytona
All i'll say is it's your money dude do what you want with it. Why the hell do we go to work if not to have some fun on the weekend? When your ready to sell i'd look at the Marsterbike though as that's pretty much reached its minimum value already. And why own a 1000 if not to abuse it anyway keep Gina for the spank bank and weekends
Don't you carry alot more speed into the bends on your daytona? If you don't then i'm suspiscious that you're not riding it properly I'm guessing Gank would be slower on the R1 than on his Daytona (unless all the roads he rides are straight). I would love one of those 50th anniversary paint jobs though, and like the idea of a litre bike for carrying pillions.
At the end of the day if you want it then buy it. The whole point of earning money is to spend it and have fun If I may suggest something - just think it through and make sure you won't regret it... not so much buying a wrong bike but selling your Daytona, as it will cost you quite a bit of money and effort to get another one with specs like this.
Point taken going to have another look this afternoon and will get an idea of figures for the master bike see what they say bearing in mind it's the same dealer I bought it from I could twist their arm somewhat hehe. Thanks Jimmy what you say makes sense I'll ride the R1 again before I sign on the dotted line though as want to be totally sure I really gel with it I do learn from my mistakes despite being impulsive
Mate. Wasnt meant to sound like you haven't progressed in your riding or haven't got full out of 675. I haven't seen you ride. You know how well you've come on. You've got a absolute stunning bike ( even if it is red). If you want to go for a r1 or anything else. Go for it. We only live once. Same with women. Try them all before you settle with one.
Thanks dude I've only just gotten used to tipping back into left turns again after my low side in October I am trying to improve with every ride. No doubt I am in need of way more tuition from a few more RH days or the superbikes school I will get there in the end was just amazed how well I gelled with the bike. However to make sure it wasn't a one off I want to go ride it again to be fully sure and then I'll make my final decision as to what to do from there.
Might be worth finding a few others. Different mileage etc see how they feel over all. I'm sure you'll make the right decision.
Don't know why you're all putting him off. I fancy a nice newish tricked up 675 (just dreaming Nick) But if you're open to the idea of tuition, I would really recommend the IAM £139 for all the tuition on the road you can handle.
+1 not commenting on your ability at all mate just my experience of litre bikes on the road vs 675. If ridden hard like triplex mentions you will pass them all on twisty roads. Straights and race tracks are different though. Seriously do try a 990 superduke though before you do sign it's like a mountain bike with an engine. Hilarious. The RC8R is good laugh too. If youre hearts set on gettin an R1 have a look at robinsons in Rochdale website I was there last wkend and they had stinking deals on 2011/10 models.
