Got home after a ride and the all too familiar envelope was waiting by the door, "your monthly bill is changing" in red letters, no need to guess which way its changing, seems like every few months now. Its bad enough when they announce a price increase for some football channel that i don't want but this one is for nothing extra, just investing in broadband network. What makes it worse is my usually reliable broadband has been really bad the last few months and I've spent ages hanging on for "tech" support who can't help because its an area problem This latest increase will take my bill up to £90/month for 200MB broadband (when its working), landline i don't use and the cheapest tv package that gives me BT sport/Eurosport for the bike racing. This is more than my gas/electricity and water combined which is crazy. Problem is i have limited choices as i don't have a bt landline so have been on cable since i bought the house, can't really downgrade the package without losing the Moto gp/BSB plus i watch baseball on BT sport Espn. I'm already trying to get a reduced bill for my broadband issues so i'll see if there is any cheaper package for me but the only options for existing customers seem to be upgrades and more expense.
Just call them & cancel your contract, They always work something out for me. I always say that I’m sick of having a £3 increase bill through the door every few months until I bother to call you & get the price back down so unless your willing to fix it for 12months I’m not interested in stopping with yourselfs. Only once have they said that their terminating & sending out parcel bags to return their equipment. But I held out & after a few days they called bk to offer me a deal in reversing my decision. I’m also in the same boat as you as regards it being my only source of broadband, Infact I don’t have a tv aerial either. Just hold your nerve & cancel until they offer you a deal. I guarantee they will & maakesure you stipulate that you want it fixing for a set period.
You sound like your on the same package as me? 200mb, basic tv and basic land line. But my monthly cost is about £40. I only have the package because for some reason it worked out cheaper than broadband on its own?!?! I have never even plugged the virgin tv box in! When my contract was up for renewal I took a look at compare the meerkat and virgin still worked out cheaper for new customers. I rang virgin and asked if I could have the new customer deal and they said ok. Mind which number you call though! Basic customer service is in India somewhere and they won’t help but customer complaints (along those lines) is UK. And they can usually give you a better answer.
As above. Call them and tell them you're leaving as too expensive. They always offer a new deal to stay. I have 200Mb broadband, Decent TV and phone package and pay less than £50.
Like I said, I don't have a BT line to the house. To be honest I haven't looked at the install cost recently, it was much cheaper when I bought the house to have cable instead, but just looked and there are a few options for free or at least discounted bt line install for new sign ups. Will give me more options to swap in the future as well. Sorry that should be 200Mb/sec, its the speed not a data limit. I don't stream movies or online game or anything so as long as its fast enough to watch stuff on youtube and cope with the cctv it'll be fast enough. I'm not on the basic tv package GazP, i think its called full house as it includes BT sport etc. I think i'll follow GazP's and Lenny's advice and ring up to cancel and try to get a better deal, might wait until Moto gp and world series are over though
Generally they’ll play game mate, If they don’t tho don’t bottle it. Tell them to terminate & I guarantee you’ll get a call in a few days from someone with more to offer & begging you to stay.
I think legally you have 14 days to cancel if they price rise on broadband? Check the T&C’s. I have to say when our Sky is up we are cancelling completely, I can’t deal with adverts anymore, so will just get Netflix, NowTv on monthly subs
Do you need to have a valid alternative ready in case they ask were you are going, just checked on gocompare and there doesn't seem to be any
I used their own offer from a comparison website. I’ve been with them for years and mentioned how were loyal customers rewarded for staying when new customers got better deals? They matched their own new customer deal for me. FWIW at £90 for a contract you would be hard pushed not to find something cheaper surely??
No just say how you feel, It’s always on my mind how frustrating it is to have to call up & hammer the price bk down after they keep adding £3-£5 every few months. Sneaky I think so just say that, Tell them I’m too busy to keep playing their games so I want it fixing at whatever they offer me or I’m leaving. I’m overdue a call myself so I’ll be calling again soon too
FWIW i managed to get the BT sport add on for £5 a month so you should def be able to swing that at least. all in our package is £53 a month for player TV, vivid 100 optical fibre broadband and talk weekends with the phone. as everyone else says give their cancellations department a ring and just explain your situation and see what they can do. maybe get a quote from a comparison site beforehand to find a package you'd be happy with from another provider and use that as leverage. good luck!
I too have been having problems with Virgin after 22 years with them .I was paying 73 for full house 200 mg and talk weekend they phoned me and said for extra £3 I would all sky movies, well that didn't happen.each I tried it said not subscribed then I had problems with E Mail phoned she said you need to pay £97 pound a month ,I told her im not paying that and don't want it I then found out they had put me a different contract from 27 August a player bundle tv bb and landline for £61, I have now received a E Mail saying one of my bills has not been payed and they are cutting me off on Monday I, waiting and see, all my bills are paid, so let em get on with it
I wouldn’t worry about not having a bt line to your property as the basic install price is for up to an hour as soon as the line is attached to ur house from the outside anything before that is down to openreach for costs. Shop about for good deals but remember whoever u choose (other than virgin) will rent the line from bt so they all use the same copper network
Virgin is a nightmare I’m on a phone, broadband and basic tv contract and as said before this was cheaper than broadband by itself. I got used to the tv service then two months in the virgin box packed in. I rang them explained everything then jumped through hoops for them. They then said an engineer would have to come out Ok make it a Saturday or Sunday as I work 12 hour shifts so not home in day Oh our engineers don’t work weekends 4 months now with no tv service
Only thing they’re good for is broadband. I just have the other services included for the total price being cheaper weirdly but I haven’t even plugged in the tv box!
