Hi guys, I cleaned the bike just now and found that the tube to the air intake flapper was melted and cut in half...doing nothing...my question is, what is it for if it wasn't doing anything the whole time?
As I understand it, the intake flap purpose is simply to reduce the intake noise to help comply with noise emission regulations.?
I've got a 2007 model and I've been reading about this and how to disable it. If you do a search there's a bunch of information about it in other threads here. For what it's worth, the Triumph service manual says it's there to help "low down power", although as St Mark says, general opinion is that it's about noise and disabling it causes no problem. Curiously, the manual also has a warning that it may be illegal to disable the "Noise Control System" but it doesn't say anything else about where or what that might be. I suspect that "low down power" is a red herring to conceal the fact that it does nothing useful. Just my opinion though ;-)
The flapper serves no purpose really, it’s functions is to reduce intake noise below 7k and allows the bike to get full AFR readings after 4K You can easily remove it, but the solenoid it is attached to needs to stay in place to save fitting a specific resistor into the line saves throwing and ecu error
